Purpose Statement Provides interpretation between parents, community members, and school personnel and translates education-related documents and maintains specialized glossary. In addition, trains and supports others for translation. Essential Functions High-level competency in performing written language translations and oral interpretation. Knowledge of and appreciation for diverse language and cultural backgrounds, particularly within an educational setting. Application of basic statistics to analyze program impact and effectiveness. Knowledge of pertinent state and federal laws and guidelines. Knowledge of management theories and principles including supervision, leadership, etc. Use of computer software related programs; Proficiency in Microsoft programs and Student Information System related products. Engaging and encouraging communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information. Translates education-related documents including forms, urgent communications to parents, notices of medical matters, legal and confidential matters, handbooks, advisories, surveys, school newsletters, and other District materials. Provides consecutive interpretation between staff and parents in school meetings including Individual Education Plan (IEP), Multi-Disciplinary Conferences (MDC), parent/teacher conferences, District’s long-term hearings, and other conferences and community events that occur between parents, community members and school personnel to enable them to participate in the process. Provides simultaneous interpretation with the real-time headset and speaker equipment at Governing Board, Parent/Teacher Association, and other District meetings and community events. Utilizes School Messenger system services in non-English languages to provide timely district news, updated information to guest translators and advisories to stakeholders. Interprets at meetings, specifically in difficult or hard to handle cases upon special request of superintendent, principals, psychologists and administrators. Other Functions Performs other related duties as assigned for the purposes of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
