The Special Education Paraprofessional works collaboratively with special education and general education staff to support students with disabilities in accessing instruction, developing independence, and participating successfully in the school environment.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide academic, behavioral, social, and classroom support to students with disabilities.
- Assist with implementation of supports under the direction of certified staff.
- Support students in individual, small-group, special education, and general education settings.
- Use positive reinforcement, prompting, redirection, and other approved strategies to support student success and independence.
- Assist with transitions, recess, lunch, arrival/dismissal, and other school activities as needed.
- Follow student safety, confidentiality, and school procedures.
- Collaborate professionally with teachers, related service providers, and other staff.
- Maintain a positive, respectful, and supportive environment for all students.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities preferred.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional when supporting challenging behaviors.
- Ability to follow directions, maintain confidentiality, and work effectively as part of a team.
- Commitment to supporting student growth, independence, and inclusion.
