PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A School Social Worker plays a crucial role in providing support and guidance to students, families, and educators. Primary responsibility includes addressing the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students; and helping students succeed academically and personally. This position works closely with the school community to identify and assess unique challenges that students face, develop intervention strategies, and connect students with external resources as needed.
1. Provide individual and group counseling to students dealing with emotional, social, and behavioral issues.
2. Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify and evaluate the unique needs of students and design appropriate intervention plans.
3. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop and implement strategies to address student behavior and improve academic performance.
4. Advocate for students and their families by helping them navigate and access community resources, such as mental health services or housing assistance.
5. Support the development and implementation of school-wide initiatives aimed at fostering a safe and inclusive environment.
6. Serve as a liaison between the school and external organizations, such as the Department of Child Safety, to ensure the holistic well-being of students.
7. Provide crisis intervention and counseling services to students experiencing traumatic events or emotional distress.
8. Satisfy 504/IEP/BIP accommodations/counseling services, as needed, when consulted with prior to accommodations/services being applied to 504/IEP/BIP.
9. Assist with disciplinary interventions when requested by administrators.
10. Coordinate school programs that address the physical needs of students and their families such as food, clothing, and shelter and holiday assistance.
11. Provide direct services to Exceptional Students/General Education Students and their families (given parent permission), within a multi-cultural framework, by providing therapeutic interventions, counseling, crisis intervention (i.e.: self-injury, suicide ideation, child abuse, grief/loss), and support groups.
12. Participate as an active member of the Student Success Team (SST) for all students with behavioral/emotional concerns.
13. Assist with the coordination and implementation of PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support).
14. Serve on the School Crisis Intervention Team.
