Job Description:
Universal Learning & Sports Academy (ULSA)
Chandler, Arizona
Part-Time | $22–$25 per hour
About ULSA
Universal Learning & Sports Academy (ULSA) is a private microschool in Chandler, Arizona, designed for student-athletes in grades 5–8. ULSA combines a personalized academic experience with daily athletic performance training, creating an environment where students can grow academically, physically, and personally.
Our academic model uses a digital curriculum supported by in-person educators who provide guidance, intervention, accountability, and individualized support. Small class sizes allow our educators to build meaningful relationships with students and focus on individual learning needs.
Position Overview
ULSA is seeking an experienced, energetic, and student-centered Part-Time Middle School Teacher / Learning Guide to support our growing school community.
Similar to a teaching fellow or learning-guide model, this position is ideal for an educator who enjoys working with students in a small, flexible learning environment rather than a traditional large classroom. The Learning Guide will work directly with students as they progress through their digital coursework while providing academic intervention, enrichment, and encouragement.
The ideal candidate is comfortable supporting multiple middle school subject areas, particularly Math and English Language Arts, and is confident using technology as part of the instructional process.
Key Responsibilities
- Support students in grades 5–8 with daily academic coursework.
- Provide individual and small-group instruction in Math, ELA, writing, and other core subjects as needed.
- Guide students through ULSA's digital curriculum and help them understand challenging concepts.
- Monitor student progress, assignments, assessments, and academic performance.
- Identify learning gaps and provide targeted academic intervention.
- Help students develop strong study habits, organization, time management, and independent-learning skills.
- Maintain a structured, positive, and engaging learning environment.
- Encourage students to take ownership of their academic progress.
- Communicate student progress and concerns with ULSA administration.
- Assist with benchmark assessments and other academic activities.
- Serve as a positive mentor and role model for student-athletes.
- Support the overall mission and culture of Universal Learning & Sports Academy.
Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have:
- Previous teaching, tutoring, substitute teaching, instructional aide, learning coach, or youth-development experience.
- Experience working with middle school students in grades 5–8.
- Strong ability to support students in Math and English Language Arts.
- Comfort using computers, online curriculum platforms, and educational technology.
- Strong student-engagement skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small-school environment.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- A positive attitude and genuine interest in helping student-athletes succeed.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Current or former teachers, retired educators, substitute teachers, and experienced learning coaches are encouraged to apply.
- Current IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
What ULSA Offers
- $22–$25 per hour, based on education and experience.
- Mid-year and end-of-year bonus opportunity
- Consistent part-time schedule.
- Small student-to-teacher environment.
- Opportunity to provide meaningful one-on-one and small-group instruction.
- Technology-supported curriculum that allows educators to focus more time on student support and intervention.
- Unique academic and athletic environment designed specifically for student-athletes.
- Opportunity to grow with an innovative private microschool.
Our Ideal Candidate
The right person for ULSA understands that teaching is more than delivering a lesson. We are looking for an educator who can guide, motivate, redirect, challenge, and support students throughout the school day.
This position may be an excellent fit for an experienced teacher looking for part-time hours, a retired educator who wants to continue working with students, or an education professional who prefers a small and personalized learning environment.
Apply
Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter describing their experience working with middle school students.
