Job Description:

SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Sign Language Interpreter to provide exceptional linguistic access during Governing Board meetings and public educational events. In this role, you will do much more than translate words; you will manage complex communication dynamics in real-time, bridging the gap between English and American Sign Language (ASL) for a diverse audience.

Flexibility in scheduling, which include night and weekend work as needed

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s Degree in Deaf Studies, ASL-English Interpretation or related field AND
    Two (2) years of Professional Interpreting - Specific, proven experience in high-stakes settings (e.g., government, legal, higher education, or corporate boardrooms)
    OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in Deaf Studies, ASL-English Interpretation or related field AND
    Six (6) years of Professional Interpreting - Specific, proven experience in high-stakes settings (e.g., government, legal, higher education, or corporate boardrooms) AND
  • Valid Provisional Class B License – Must hold an Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 4.0 or higher OR a valid State Certificate of Competency
    OR
  • Valid Provisional Class C License – Must be willing and able to achieve an EIPA score of 4.0 or higher to qualify for and obtain a Provisional Class B License within two (2) years of employment.
  • Platform Interpreting Experience - Comfort working in front of cameras, on stages, or for live-streamed public events.
  • Knowledge of Ethical Standard - Strict adherence to the RID Code of Professional Conduct (particularly regarding confidentiality, neutrality, and professional boundaries).

REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO START DATE

  • FBI fingerprint background check.
  • Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Deaf Studies or ASL – English Interpreting or Interpretation Studies
  • Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) certificate.

Effective: 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR
LOCATION: Sites Vary
FTE : 1.0 - 8 hours per day
Work Calendar: 12 month
