Part-Time Math Teaching Assistant

Edge High School Northwest-Tucson, Arizona
26 hours per week | School-Year Position

Position Summary

Edge High School is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Part-Time Math Teaching Assistant to support mathematics instruction in our innovative, mastery-based high school. The Teaching Assistant works collaboratively with certified math teachers to provide individualized academic support, reinforce mathematical concepts, monitor student progress, and help students develop the confidence and skills needed for success.

Edge High School serves students through a personalized learning model where instruction is individualized, relationship-driven, and focused on helping every student graduate. The ideal candidate enjoys working one-on-one and with small groups of high school students and believes all students can succeed with the right support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one and small-group academic support in mathematics under the direction of the supervising teacher.
• Assist students with coursework, assignments, and problem-solving while encouraging independent learning.
• Reinforce concepts introduced by the classroom teacher using instructional strategies aligned with Edge's mastery-based model.
• Monitor student engagement and progress using online instructional platforms.
• Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials and maintaining an organized learning environment.
• Help students remain on pace toward course completion and graduation goals.
• Provide encouragement, positive behavior support, and relationship-based mentoring to students.
• Communicate observations regarding student progress and needs to supervising teachers.
• Supervise students as assigned during instructional periods and other school activities.
• Maintain confidentiality of student records in accordance with FERPA and school policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, Principal, or supervising teacher.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's Degree
• Experience working with adolescents or in an educational setting.
• Strong mathematics skills through Algebra II (higher-level coursework preferred).
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and families.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card before employment, as required for school personnel.

Preferred

• Previous experience as a paraprofessional, instructional assistant, tutor, or classroom aide.
• Experience working with alternative education or at-risk youth.
• Familiarity with online learning platforms such as Edgenuity or IXL.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

This is a part-time (26 hours per week) position following the school calendar. Typical work hours are during the regular school day, Monday through Friday.

The selected candidate must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements, including obtaining or possessing a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card and passing applicable background checks.
