Job Description:

Instruction & Student Support

  • Provide specialized instruction to students with disabilities in resource and inclusion settings.
  • Deliver specially designed instruction aligned with students' IEP goals and Arizona Academic Standards.
  • Differentiate instruction based on individual student needs, learning styles, and accommodations.
  • Utilize research-based instructional strategies and interventions to accelerate student achievement.
  • Monitor student progress regularly and adjust instruction based on data.
  • Maintain high expectations for academic achievement, behavior, and independence.

IEP Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Ensure all IEP services, accommodations, modifications, and goals are implemented with fidelity.
  • Maintain accurate and timely special education documentation.
  • Conduct progress monitoring and complete required progress reports.
  • Coordinate and participate in annual reviews, reevaluations, eligibility meetings, manifestation determinations, and other required special education meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with IDEA, Section 504, ESSA, Arizona Department of Education requirements, and district policies.

Collaboration

  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive instructional practices.
  • Assist teachers in implementing accommodations and modifications within the general education classroom.
  • Work closely with paraprofessionals, related service providers, school psychologists, counselors, and administrators.
  • Participate in Child Study Team (CST), MTSS, and intervention meetings.
  • Maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress and services.

Assessment & Data

  • Collect and analyze student performance data to guide instructional decisions.
  • Assist in conducting academic assessments and evaluations as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, service logs, and compliance documentation.
  • Utilize assessment data to develop instructional plans and intervention strategies.

Classroom Management

  • Establish a structured, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Teach and reinforce behavioral expectations using PBIS and restorative practices.
  • Promote student independence, self-advocacy, executive functioning, and social-emotional development.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student information.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Attend IEP meetings, staff meetings, PLCs, professional development, and required trainings.
  • Arrive on time and fulfill all assigned supervisory duties.
  • Collaborate professionally with staff and families.
  • Maintain compliance with FERPA and all federal and state special education regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.


Other:

Required

  • Valid Arizona Special Education Teaching Certificate (Mild/Moderate Disabilities, Cross-Categorical, or other appropriate certification).
  • Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, ESSA, and Arizona special education regulations.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred

  • Experience teaching students in Kindergarten through 8th grade.
  • Experience writing and managing compliant IEPs.
  • Experience in inclusive classrooms and co-teaching models.
  • Knowledge of MTSS, PBIS, restorative practices, and evidence-based interventions.
  • Experience working in a Title I or charter school environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the school day.
  • Ability to lift instructional materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to assist students during emergency situations or behavioral crises when necessary and in accordance with district training and policy.
