POSITION DESCRIPTION: Director of Athletics
I. General Description:
To work cooperatively with all district principals 7-12 in fulfilling the leadership role for school athletics. To coordinate and promote excellence in extra-curricular activities and to provide all students 7-12 an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of sport, and the principals of fair play.
II. Qualifications:
1. Standard Arizona Teacher Certification. (Administrator/Supervisory Certification preferred.)
2. Master’s Degree preferred.
3. Seven years classroom teaching experience.
4. Seven years Athletic Director experience at the High School level.
5. Seven years coaching experience at the high school varsity or collegiate levels.
III. Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for the organization and administering of the overall athletic program for the middle and high school athletes of CUSD.
2. Works collaboratively with the Athletic Coordinators at the middle school sites to provide leadership and coordination among the various sports and to facilitate programs that provide worthwhile experiences.
3. Provides leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and staff members at the middle and high school level.

4. Works collaboratively with the school district and community agencies for a 7-12 athletic program to include a variety of recreational and sports activities on a year-round basis.
5. Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all inter- scholastic athletic events.
6. Hires officials, team physicians, and policemen as required, and assume general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.
7. Arranges provision for meals for athletes and coaches when opponent is 50 miles or more from a district boundary line.
8. Arranges transportation for athletic contest participants.
9. Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletes.
10. Establishes the physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport, and verifies each athlete’s eligibility.
11. Prepares and administers the athletic program budget.
12. Requisitions program supplies and equipment.
13. Responsible for game management at all home interscholastic contests, and when admission is charged, is responsible for the safekeeping and deposit of gate receipts.
14. Arranges field and gym practice schedules for all athletic teams 7-12.
15. Provides for the physical examination of all athletes, at end of school year and at beginning of new school year.
16. Plans and supervises an annual recognition program for school athletes.

17. Responsible for administering all interscholastic policies and procedures working within the confines of the rules and by laws of the Arizona Interscholastic Association (A.I.A.), NAIC, and NEAAA.
18. Responsible for game management and attends all home athletic/interscholastic contests and / or arranges for proper supervision.
19. Responsible for determining scholastic eligibility of all candidates for athletic teams. Follows NO PASS – NO PLAY guidelines.
20. Coordinates the use of athletic facilities with the respective building principal and by groups outside the district.
21. Responsible for all recommendations for improvement of facilities, which will be directed through the line of authority to the superintendent for consideration or referral at his discretion
22. Assumes responsibility for assignment of keys to athletic facilities and gymnasium.
23. Represents the school in all athletic business at league, conference and state meetings.
24. Performs other related duties as assigned.
District will cover Dental, Vision, and Medical.
