Position Summary

The Elementary Literacy Specialist supports student achievement by providing targeted reading intervention, collaborating with teachers to strengthen literacy instruction, and assisting with the implementation of effective, research-based literacy practices. The specialist works collaboratively with students, teachers, administrators, and families to improve literacy outcomes and promote academic success for all elementary students.

The Elementary Literacy Specialist serves as a resource for teachers by promoting effective literacy instruction while providing targeted support to students who require additional reading intervention.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Support

  • Provide targeted reading intervention for students identified through assessment and progress monitoring.
  • Conduct literacy assessments and monitor student progress.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor intervention plans based on student needs.
  • Maintain accurate student records and required documentation.

Instructional Support

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to strengthen literacy instruction and student achievement.
  • Model effective instructional strategies and provide classroom support as appropriate.
  • Assist teachers in analyzing student assessment data to guide instructional decisions.
  • Support the implementation of the district's literacy curriculum and instructional initiatives.
  • Assist with coordinating district literacy assessments, intervention programs, and instructional resources.
  • Participate in MTSS meetings and collaborate in developing intervention plans.
  • Utilize technology to support instruction, assessment, communication, and recordkeeping.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with students, families, staff, and community members.
  • Promote a positive, student-centered learning environment that supports academic growth and achievement.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student, personnel, and district information.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and district committees as assigned.
  • Support the mission, vision, goals, and strategic priorities of Peach Springs Unified School District #8.
  • Follow Governing Board policies, administrative regulations, and all applicable federal and state laws.
  • Maintain regular attendance, punctuality, and professionalism.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate.
  • Structured English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction, intervention strategies, and student assessment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, staff, and administrators.

Preferred

  • Reading Specialist Endorsement or related literacy coursework.
  • Experience providing literacy intervention.
  • Experience supporting classroom instruction, instructional coaching, curriculum implementation, or MTSS.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of evidence-based literacy instruction and intervention practices.
  • Knowledge of Arizona Academic Standards and effective instructional practices.
  • Ability to analyze assessment data and use results to improve instruction.
  • Knowledge of MTSS and data-driven decision-making.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with educational technology, student information systems, and instructional software.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing as a collaborative member of a professional learning community.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional growth and lifelong learning.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to move throughout classrooms and school facilities.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Terms of Employment

Salary, benefits, work calendar, and conditions of employment shall be established by the Governing Board in accordance with district policy and the current salary schedule.

Evaluation

Performance shall be evaluated in accordance with Governing Board policy and administrative regulations.
