SUMMARY
The TOA, ESS Transition/Articulation Coordinator for ESS is responsible for monitoring and reviewing Exceptional Student Services referral and implementation of transition services and articulation from elementary to high school, and from high school to post-secondary (military, higher education, adult day programs, etc.). The candidate will monitor and advise administrative leadership on transition policies, best practices, and outcomes. They will develop professional development for district-wide staff, and conduct programs assessments. Candidates should possess a strong knowledge of I.D.E.A. and best practices for transition services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Serves as the liaison between the District and Partner Elementary Schools for the purposes of special education and Section 504 needs.
- Provides support to leadership and ESS Facilitators in the discussion, dialogue and action on Articulation, Equity, and Transition Programs from elementary to secondary education, and to post-secondary training, work, and educational programs.
- Collaborate with District, campus and partner district contracts to ensure incoming 9th grade students, including placement, open enrollment, specialty schools, and programs receive appropriate services at the high school level, including collecting data to propose new programs.
- Assist district and ESS staff in assessing I.D.E.A. transition activities.
- Conducts site visits to determine professional development and job-training needs for transition activities.
- Meets and coordinates with ESS Leadership, ESS Facilitators, and Site Administration as needed to ensure that transition programs and services are aligned with District initiatives and practices, collecting data, and making proposals for new or updated programs as needed.
- Coordinates recruitment for transition programs.
- Collaborate with community members from outside the District to support student needs.
- Participate in campus and district-based meetings, in-services, workshops, and trainings.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
- Possess a Master's Degree
- Must be appropriately certified in Special Education
- Have a minimum of 7 years' experience in special education writing, including successful transitioning of students from high school to career or college opportunities.
- Experience in training staff to implement services and paperwork to conform to Federal, State, and District guidelines.
- Have knowledge of Federal and State special education, and disability-related laws and statutes.
- Possess an Active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
