Job Description:
New School for the Arts & Academics includes two charter school, a middle and a high school. We currently need a teacher for our middle school Show Choir and Drama classes, and high school Musical Theatre and Vocal Ensemble.
All faculty must have a bachelor's degree and a DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
This may be a part time or full time position. Fulltime employees are eligible for medical benefits and ASRF.
Standard calendar, 5 days a week, 8:30-4 are the professional hours.
Teachers are responsible for creating a safe and engaged learning environment.
Teacher Roles for Performing Arts Classes includes establishing a performance’s vision and collaborate with other faculty and artists to turn a script into a unified, live stage production. In creating a performance, there are 3 expected areas the teacher must organize, coordinate and direct.
1. Pre-Production
Concept Development: Creates an artistic vision, setting the tone, mood, and thematic focus for the performance.
Scripts: Find scripts and other materials NSAA must purchase early.
Casting: Leads auditions to select performers who best fit the acting, singing, and movement requirements.
Design Collaboration: Works with set, costume, lighting, and sound technician faculty to ensure the visual and technical elements align with the overarching vision.
Programs: Coordinate with the Dept Coor to post flyers on our social media and communicate with NSAA families to promote the performance.
2. Rehearsals
Staging (Blocking): Dictates where and how the actors move across the stage to tell the story effectively.
Performance Coaching: Guides actors in text analysis, character development, and emotional arcs.
Integration: Collaborates with other faculty to ensure all musical and movement numbers advance the plot. NSAA has 3 dance/choreography, and several music and drama faculty.
3. Tech Week & Performances
Tech Integration: Oversees the integration of sets, lights, costumes, and live sound during technical rehearsals.
Pacing & Polish: Adjusts the tempo and flow of scenes to maximize audience engagement.
PR: Create flyers and advertisements for performances, and communicate with families.
Notes & Maintenance: Watches performances and provides notes to the cast and crew to maintain the show's quality throughout its run.
Scripts: Return scripts on time.
