Job Description:

Not every teaching job changes a school. This one can.

Western Valley Middle School is looking for an exceptional Grade 6 Math Teacher who believes every student deserves to experience success, even when the odds say otherwise.

We are not searching for someone who wants to maintain the status quo. We are looking for someone energized by growth, inspired by challenge, and excited to become part of a team that is transforming a school from the inside out.

This is more than a classroom. It is an opportunity to help write the next chapter of one of Arizona's most exciting school turnaround stories.

Western Valley Middle School serves an incredible and diverse community of students in Phoenix. Our students bring resilience, humor, curiosity, and tremendous potential to school every day. They deserve educators who believe in them before they believe in themselves.

Our mission is simple: Ignite. Unite. Empower.

Every decision we make is centered on creating a school where students feel they belong, engage in meaningful learning, and leave prepared for high school and beyond.

Over the past year we have strengthened school culture, improved attendance systems, expanded student voice and choice, created meaningful intervention structures, and celebrated significant academic growth. The work is challenging, but the momentum is real.

Now we are looking for an outstanding teacher to help us continue that journey.

You will help students transition from elementary school into middle school while building confidence as mathematicians. Your classroom will become a place where students discover that they are capable of solving difficult problems, thinking critically, collaborating with peers, and persevering through challenges.

The relationships you build this year may influence the next seven years of a student's educational journey.

The teacher we're looking for:

  • You believe that relationships come before rigor, and that strong relationships make rigor possible.
  • You know that great math instruction is active, engaging, and rooted in student thinking rather than worksheets.
  • You celebrate growth as much as achievement.
  • You are reflective, collaborative, and always looking for ways to improve your practice.
  • You understand that students are far more than test scores, yet you are committed to helping every student achieve at high levels.
  • You enjoy being part of a team that supports one another, learns together, and celebrates success.

As our Grade 6 Math Teacher, you will:

  • Create engaging, student-centered math lessons aligned to Arizona standards.
  • Build a classroom culture where every student feels safe to take academic risks.
  • Use data to inform instruction and provide targeted intervention.
  • Collaborate with an outstanding sixth-grade team committed to continuous improvement.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including multilingual learners and students receiving special education services.
  • Communicate regularly with families to celebrate successes and build strong partnerships.
  • Participate in professional learning that directly supports classroom practice.
  • Help create a school where students feel seen, valued, challenged, and inspired.

What you'll find at Western Valley:

  • You'll find a leadership team that believes teachers deserve support, trust, and opportunities to grow.
  • You'll work alongside educators who collaborate rather than compete.
  • You'll have access to meaningful professional learning, instructional coaching, collaborative planning, and leadership opportunities.
  • You'll teach in a school that believes culture matters just as much as curriculum.
  • You'll become part of a community that laughs together, solves problems together, and refuses to let circumstances define what our students can accomplish.

Qualifications

  • Valid Arizona teaching certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Strong knowledge of mathematics and effective instructional practices.
  • Commitment to equity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Passion for building relationships with middle school students and families.
  • Growth mindset and willingness to contribute to a positive school culture.

If you are looking for a place where your work matters every single day...

If you want to be surrounded by educators who believe improvement is always possible...

If you want to help transform not just student achievement, but student lives...

Western Valley Middle School is ready for you.

Come build something extraordinary with us.
