Job Description:
The ACYR team, strives to build pathways to success through education, skill building and employment opportunities to help youth and young adults reach self-sufficiency. The Student Transportation Driver is responsible for safely transporting high school students between the school campus and designated Career and Technical Education (CTE), vocational training, apprenticeship, or dual-enrollment program locations. The Driver ensures student safety, maintains vehicle compliance, adheres to transportation schedules, and serves as a positive representative of the school while transporting students to and from educational programs throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area.
The position requires a strong commitment to safety, professionalism, reliability, and positive interactions with students, staff, parents, and community partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport students to and from educational and vocational programs by operating a school-owned passenger van (7-12 passenger), following routes and schedules, supervising loading and unloading, verifying attendance, enforcing safety expectations, and maintaining compliance with transportation policies and regulations.
- Conduct and document daily vehicle inspections, monitor and maintain vehicle safety and cleanliness, ensure required documentation is current, and promptly report maintenance, mechanical, or safety concerns to support safe and reliable student transportation operations.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and positive transportation environment by enforcing student conduct expectations, addressing behavioral concerns, responding effectively to emergencies, and adhering to established safety, evacuation, and first-aid procedures.
- Maintain accurate transportation records, including mileage and passenger logs, communicate delays or emergencies promptly, complete required incident reports, and coordinate with school staff to support student transportation needs and schedule changes.
- Maintain student confidentiality, participate in required meetings and trainings, support school events and transportation needs as assigned, and perform other duties as directed.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Arizona Level 1/IVP Fingerprint card
- Valid Arizona Driver License with a clean driving record.
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- At least three years of licensed driving experience.
- Ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review.
- Ability to pass all required background checks and fingerprint clearance requirements.
- Ability to safely operate a passenger van and navigate throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to supervise and interact positively with high school students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience transporting students or youth.
- Previous experience driving passenger vans, shuttle vehicles, or school transportation vehicles.
- CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Defensive Driving Certification.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills.
- Knowledge of Phoenix-area roadways and traffic patterns.
- Experience working with opportunity young adults.

Valid Arizona Level 1/IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. Valid Arizona Driver's License. Requires use of agency provided vehicle and may require use of insured personal vehicle for agency business.
Must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Misdemeanor and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and how recent. The background check will consist of a reference checks, employment, education, and criminal background search.
