Job Description:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The head coach is responsible for helping each participating athlete achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem. The Head Coach reports to the Athletic Director. The Assistant Coach reports to the Head Coach and Athletic Director.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible with the Athletic Director for all matters relating to the organization, administration, and philosophy of the sport under his/her direction.
Serves in a leadership capacity to the community program.
Oversees the high school program in his/her sport.
Attends all practices and games, if you are to miss a practice or game you must notify the Athletic Director for it to be excused.
Attends over 90% of all practices and games.
Acts as a positive role model on and off the court/field/site, etc.
Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
Works cooperatively with coaches, athletic directors, and students to ensure a healthy, positive environment.
Adheres to district transportation travel policy and guidelines.
Is willing and able to drive the team to events.
Assigns duties to the coaching staff.
Maintains an accurate and current team and program roster and submits copies to the Athletic Director and posts rosters to MaxPreps.
Maintains accurate statistics, records, and results of each game on MaxPreps.
Nominates appropriate athletes for post-season awards. Attends award selection meetings.
Arranges for presentation of team awards through the Athletic Director.
Enforces rules related to his/her sports.
Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
Ensures a positive environment free of hazing, harassment, bullying, and intimidating language and behaviors.
Checks with Athletic Director on individual athlete’s eligibility
Cooperates with the Athletic Director to verify that no participant is issued equipment or allowed to practice until his/her physical examination card has been completed and Athletic Director has it on file.
Reports injuries to the Athletic Director through personal communication, as well as completing and submitting incident reports.
Provides supervision of all athletes from the beginning of practice or games until they have left the building and/or site.
Ensure that all windows, doors, and gates are locked in any area that has been used.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference given to employees of the district.
Coaches shall be approved in accordance with the personnel policies of the school district and in accordance with the Arizona Revised Statutes.
Preferred: All head and assistant coaches shall have Arizona Coaching Certificate, or have completed each of the following criteria from the National Federation of State High School Associations online at www.nfhslearn.org (Level I Certification) before the first practice: Fundamentals of Coaching, Concussions in Sports, Protecting Athletes from Abuse, Sudden Cardiac Arrest and First Aid/CPR and sport-specific course or teaching sport skills if sport is not offered. This certification shall be on file or recorded in the office of the principal or his/her designee.
Coaching positions are to be reposted yearly.
