Job Description:

ASA’s mission is to inspire creative thinkers and leaders through providing an innovative concentration in college preparation informed by the performing arts.

The Production Design and Technical Theatre Teacher is a skilled, and experienced instructor with a specialization in production design and management and technical direction. This part time faculty member teaches three (3) classes daily (12:30pm-4:30pm): Production: Design Concepts (10th-12th grades); Production: Practicum (10th- 12th); and Theatre Studies: Stagecraft (9th grade).  The teacher designs, plans, and implements a challenging and relevant curriculum that focuses on the specific pedagogy for each course. Curriculum and unit plans from the previous year are available to use or adapt.  This instructor must be experienced in providing feedback that enables students to develop their creative, technical, and presentation skills.

This faculty member will have 55 minutes of prep time daily for curriculum planning, meeting, integrating, and assessing. The curriculum is to align with the national and state performing arts standards and social-emotional learning (SEL) competencies. They will also be asked to differentiate their curriculum using additional resources as needed to support student growth and achievement. This teacher works closely with  the Theatre Department.

This position reports to the Assistant Principal of Performing Arts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creates and delivers an effective curriculum that meets school and department goals.

  • Provides technical direction for one Theatre Department MainStage production.

  • Supervises student production crews.

  • Supervises and mentors student designers for all productions.

  • Participates in ASA Showcase at the end of the school year.

  • Utilizes current curriculum and assessments aligned to the National and State Arts Standards, ASA standards, SEL Competencies, and ASA’s scope and sequence.

  • Plan and deliver standards-aligned lessons that are clear, engaging, and appropriately challenging.

  • Establish a classroom environment that is safe, respectful, and conducive to learning.

  • Build strong relationships with students; foster a sense of belonging and trust.

  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.

  • Differentiate instruction based on student readiness, interests, and learning profiles.

  • Assess student learning regularly using formative and summative methods.

  • Analyze data to adjust instruction and improve student outcomes.

  • Provide timely, specific, and actionable feedback to students.

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and grades

  • Communicate consistently and professionally with families about student progress and needs.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan instruction, align curriculum, and support students.

  • Participate in professional development and apply learning to improve practice.

  • Implement school policies, procedures, and curriculum with fidelity.

  • Support students’ social-emotional development alongside academic growth.

  • Manage classroom behavior using proactive and restorative practices.

  • Integrate technology effectively to enhance learning experiences.

  • Uphold professional ethics, confidentiality, and legal responsibilities.

  • Contribute to the broader school community through events, meetings, and initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in content area from an accredited four-year college or university.

  • Highly qualified with proven experience working with students of varying ages and experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in theatre field including working with middle school and high school students in productions.

  • Solid problem-solving skills.

  • Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Identity Verified Prints (IVP) card.

  • Experience adapting theatre practice into effective curriculum and instruction.

    • Effective classroom management skills.

    • Utilization of constructivist teaching strategies

    • Authentic assessment and rubrics

    • Google Workplace and Notation Software preferred
