Job Title: K–12 Music Teacher

Work Calendar: Four (4) Day Work Week
Work Schedule: Eight (8) periods per day, including one (1) duty-free lunch period (30 minutes) and one (1) preparation period

Position Summary

The K–12 Music Teacher is responsible for providing comprehensive music instruction to students in kindergarten through 12th grade. The teacher develops and implements engaging, standards-based lessons that foster musical skills, creativity, and appreciation for music across a variety of grade levels and abilities. This position supports both general music education and performance-based programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate music instruction for grades K–12, including general music, vocal, and/or instrumental programs.
  • Develop lesson plans aligned with state standards and district curriculum.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student learning needs and abilities.
  • Teach foundational music concepts such as rhythm, melody, harmony, notation, and performance skills.
  • Organize and direct student performances (e.g., concerts, assemblies, community events).
  • Assess student progress regularly and maintain accurate records of grades and participation.
  • Maintain and manage music classroom, instruments, and equipment.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and creativity.
  • Collaborate with staff to support cross-curricular connections and school initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student progress and program activities.
  • Participate in school meetings, professional development, and district initiatives.

Work Schedule and Conditions

  • Four (4) day instructional week.
  • Eight (8) periods per day, structured as follows:
    • One (1) 30-minute duty-free lunch period
    • One (1) preparation period
    • Six (6) instructional periods
  • Work is performed in a classroom and performance environment that may include rehearsal spaces and auditoriums.
  • Occasional evening or after-school hours required for performances and events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field.
  • Valid state teaching certification in Music (K–12 preferred).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of vocal and/or instrumental instruction.
  • Ability to work with students across a wide age range (elementary through high school).
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching multiple grade levels (K–12).
  • Experience directing ensembles (band, choir, or general music programs).
  • Ability to integrate technology into music instruction.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, conduct, and move around the classroom for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move musical instruments and equipment as needed.

Additional Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the school administration.
  • Opportunities may be available for extracurricular sponsorships or stipends related to music programs or coaching.

  • Small Class Sizes: The district maintains small class sizes, typically no more than fifteen (15) students per grade level, allowing for individualized instruction and meaningful student engagement.
  • Instrument Availability: The music program is supported with a variety of instruments, including brass, stringed instruments, and keyboards, providing students with diverse opportunities for hands-on learning and performance.
  • Instructional Support: A paraprofessional is available to assist with elementary music classes, supporting instruction, classroom management, and student needs.
