BASIS Phoenix Primary is seeking qualified candidates for a Support Specialist to join our team!

The Support Specialist plays a key role in supporting student academic growth and success by working closely with students, teachers, and families to address learning needs and build strong academic habits. This position focuses on academic monitoring, intervention support, and student skill development, helping students learn how to manage coursework, use student hours effectively, and improve study habits and organization.

The Support Specialist serves as a visible and trusted support for students, particularly in Grades 4 and 5, and collaborates with instructional staff to ensure timely academic interventions are implemented.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred)
  • 3–5 years of experience in a school setting (charter or independent school preferred)
  • Experience supporting student academics, interventions, or learning support preferred

Primary Responsibilities

  • Monitors student academic performance, including grades, missing assignments, and assessment data
  • Meets regularly with students to provide academic coaching and goal-setting support
  • Teaches and reinforces study skills, organization strategies, and time-management skills
  • Supports students in learning how to be successful during student hours and independent work time
  • Tracks and follows up on missing or incomplete assignments in collaboration with teachers
  • Supports and delivers targeted academic interventions for 4th and 5th grade students, particularly in reading and mathematics
  • Organizes and reviews assessment data related to numeracy, reading comprehension, problem-solving skills, and other school-based or state-required assessments
  • Participates in reviewing Progress Reports, Mid-Semester Reports, and academic data to identify students needing additional support
  • Communicates with families regarding academic progress, concerns, and strategies for improvement
  • Collaborates with teachers to align academic supports and reinforce classroom expectations
  • Assists with planning and implementation of academic support schedules and intervention groups
  • Participates in the planning and execution of standardized assessments as needed
  • Maintains accurate documentation related to academic support and intervention plans
  • Participates in all faculty and staff meetings

  • Knowledge of effective academic intervention strategies, particularly for upper elementary students
  • Ability to teach and model study skills, organization, and academic self-advocacy
  • Strong relationship-building skills with students, families, and colleagues
  • Ability to analyze academic data to identify trends and target student supports
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with teachers and support staff
  • High level of organization with the ability to manage multiple students and priorities
  • Attention to detail and consistency in follow-through
  • Patience, flexibility, and a positive, student-centered mindset
