Job Posting Announcement – Middle School Math Teacher
Position Summary
Paulo Freire Freedom School-Downtown seeks a full-time middle school math teacher with a demonstrated background and interest in interdisciplinary learning, integrated curriculum, and a commitment to the whole child. The school’s approach centers around collaboration, thoughtful innovation, team building, and diverse and multiple perspectives.
Specific functions:
Collaborate on curriculum design and implementation in an interdisciplinary setting with other teachers in different content areas
Design, plan, and implement a project-based science class with an emphasis on Universal Design for Learning for a mixed cohort of students
Design, plan, and implement a project-based math class with an emphasis on Universal Design for Learning for mixed cohort of students
Support all learners using culturally responsive practices, personalized competency-based learning, literacy integration, and social-emotional learning.
Design and teach two 4-day intensive Intersession experiences (1 per semester)
Teach and facilitate a mixed-age advisory of 13 students
Participate in professional development activities
Collaborate effectively with colleagues
Support eighth-grade students through a portfolio demonstration process
Actively participate in creating a demonstration site school designed around best teaching practices
Qualifications:
Certification in math (or a commitment to working toward certification)
Teaching experience with middle school students preferred
Experience and commitment to collaboration with colleagues and effective teams
Commitment to ethnic diversity, heterogeneous grouping, and full inclusion
B.A. required and masters degree preferred
Strong work ethic, interpersonal skills, initiative, and independence
Knowledge and understanding of Arizona state standards

Salary: Competitive annual teacher salary, starting at $54,000 per year
Benefits: Competitive health insurance benefits; Arizona State Retirement System participation
Work Year: School-year calendar, approximately August 1-June 1
