Teacher on Special Assignment (1.0 FTE, 10-Month Position)

Start Date: July 20, 2026

Position Overview

The Teacher on Special Assignment serves outside the classroom setting for assignments as determined by the needs of the district and specified by the Superintendent. Specific areas of assignment could include, but are not limited to, teacher support; student support; and/or program development and support. The TOSA is expected to demonstrate leadership in the organization and assist with school improvement efforts. 

This position is ideal for an experienced educator looking to take on a leadership role focused on student success, school culture, and community engagement.

Compensation

  • Total:  $63,000 (10-month contract)

    • Base Salary: $50,000 (1.0 FTE) 

    • Additional Stipends (up to $13,000):

      • Testing Coordinator – $3,000

      • Title I Data Coordinator – $5,000

      • Core Curriculum Technology Specialist – $5,000

Essential Duties of the Position

This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:

  • Assist in opening/closing of school year

  • Assist in staff development

  • Assist with general clerical duties of school

  • Assist in student discipline and student supervision throughout the school

  • Assist in data analysis

  • Assist in program evaluations

  • Mentor and coach teachers

  • Write reports and participate in grant writing, as needed or necessary

  • Maintain positive relations with parents, parent groups, volunteers and outside agencies

  • Coordinates activities and/or facilitates supervision of after school programs and/or athletics

  • Other responsibilities as needed to assist the superintendent and building staff

 

Marginal Duties of the Position:

TOSA may perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Field Trip Coordinator

  • Support School Attendance Reporting

  • Scheduling of Substitutes

  • Parent Liaison

  • Testing Coordinator

  • Support Transportation Services (currently have 2 drivers)

Special Requirement of the Position:

  • Good working knowledge of leadership skills with students, staff, and community

  • Good time management

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate

  • Minimum of 5 years of classroom teaching experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred or in progress)

  • Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card

Preferred Qualifications

  • Arizona Principal or Administrator Certificate (or willingness to obtain within 1–2 years)

  • Prior experience in instructional leadership, team leadership, or program coordination

  • Knowledge of school operations, budgeting, and compliance requirements

Work Schedule & Conditions

  • Expected In Office hours: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (Monday–Thursday)

  • One Friday per month for professional development

  • Occasional evening commitments (e.g., board meetings, fall festival)

  • Work is performed primarily in a school/office setting
