Job Description:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
● High School diploma or equivalent
● Must be 18 years of age or older
● Must pass a character reference check as well as state and community fingerprint screening
● May be required to submit to a drug test
● Must be in good physical health and be able to pass a physical examination
● Must know or be willing to learn to operate vacuum cleaners, carpet shampoo machine, and lawn 
equipment
● Must demonstrate aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities and alternatives as 
specified by the supervisor
● Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
●  Keeps premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean
●  Cleans driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate
●  Keeps the grounds free of rubbish
●  Prepares seedling or transplanting beds by cultivating soil and adding fertilizer or chemicals, 
if needed.
●  Plants seeds, bulbs, tree seedlings, and shrubbery so that resulting growth will produce an 
attractive appearance.
●  Experiments with different varieties of lawn and flower seeds to determine those best suited to 
the soil.
●  Prunes, trees and trims hedges to promote growth and improve appearance.
●  Mows lawns with a hand or power mower.
●  Connects sprinkling equipment and waters lawn and flowerbeds.
●  Inspects flowers, shrubs, and trees for evidence of insects, fungi, and other pests and sprays 
or dusts.
●  Adjusts and repairs such equipment as lawnmower, sprinklers, and hedge shears.
●  Collects and disposes of leaves and refuse.
●  Repair outdoor chairs and benches.
●  Works on custodial jobs as assigned.
●  Reports major repairs needed promptly to supervisor
●  Performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor

SKILL, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills to 
meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of 
the job include Operating equipment used in skilled trades, power and hand tools, etc.; adhering to 
safety practices; handling hazardous materials; and planning and managing projects.

KNOWLEDGE is required to read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or

factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of 
circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment 
using a variety of processes. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of 
individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of types of 
job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and 
create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational 
objectives; and problem solving with equipment is significant. Specific abilities required to 
satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include adapting to changing work priorities; 
communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines & schedules; setting priorities; working as 
part of a team; and working with constant & sustained interruptions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
● Work may be performed outdoors in various weather conditions.
● May require occasional evening or weekend work depending on school events or maintenance needs.
