POSITION JOB TITLE: Grounds Technician
SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Level E
POSITION SUPERVISION: Plant Foreman
GENERAL STATEMENT OF POSITIONS PURPOSE: To play an integral part in ensuring a safe, attractive, clean and efficient environment for students to learn and develop.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND/ OR TRAINING:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- MSDS training
- Arizona Driver’s License and ability to obtain a CDL License.
EXPERIENCE:
- One year’s experience in grounds work.
- One year’s experience in herbicide uses and procedures.
- Experience in planting and maintaining shrubs, trees and other greenery is required.
- Ability to communicate and work well with staff.
DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEDGE/ PROFICIENCY OF EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, MATERIALS AND SKILLS:
- Mowers
- Trimmers
- Small power equipment
- Heavy equipment.
- General grounds hand tools.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
General Duties
- Acts as Lead person and issues assignments to each employee on shift.
- Performs herbicide/pesticide and landscaping related duties as required.
- Complies with EPA, OSHA, ADOT, the State Pesticide Board and all other Federal, State, City or District inspections and requirements.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
LEVEL OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND AUTHORITY:
- Must use own initiative and judgement in performing job, acts in the capacity of Lead assignment.
INTERACTION WITH OTHERS
- Complete work with minimum contact with others.
TIME MANAGEMENT:
- Must be able to plan two to twelve weeks in advance
- Must perform tasks within assigned are and timeframe.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Daily exposure to hazardous materials such as blood borne pathogens, high voltage, gases or heights.

- The work environment for this position is normal for any outside position. With noise levels variation from low to mid-based on the type of tools or equipment being used on at given time. At times extreme heat and weather will be encountered.
