Summary:
The K-8 School Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, as well as on field trips. This position requires adherence to all safety regulations and policies while providing a positive and supportive environment for students during their commute.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safe Transportation: Operate the school bus in a safe and responsible manner, ensuring the safety of all passengers during morning and afternoon runs.
- Route Management: Follow designated routes and schedules, picking up and dropping off students at assigned locations.
- Field Trip Coordination: Assist in transporting students for field trips, ensuring timely arrival and departure while maintaining a safe environment.
- Student Supervision: Monitor student behavior while on the bus, addressing any issues that arise and promoting a respectful atmosphere.
- Pre-Trip Inspections: Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is in safe operating condition, reporting any maintenance needs promptly.
- Communication: Maintain open communication with school staff, parents, and transportation coordinators regarding any changes in schedules or student needs.
- Emergency Procedures: Be familiar with and implement emergency procedures as needed, ensuring the safety of all passengers.
Qualifications:
- Valid commercial driver’s license (training provided)
- Previous experience driving a school bus or similar vehicle preferred.
- Strong knowledge of traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Ability to interact positively with students, parents, and school staff.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods and perform physical tasks associated with bus operation.
- Ability to assist students as needed, including lifting and securing safety equipment.
- Ability to lift minimum of 50 lbs
Work Schedule:
- Morning runs from 6:00 am to 8:00 am.
- Afternoon runs from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
- Additional hours may be available for field trips and special events.
