Job Title: Classroom Teacher

Job Type: Full-time, 11-month contract

Reports to: Principal

Staff to manage: None

Department: Instructional

Location: On campus (Not eligible for remote work)


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Teachers at Western School of Science and Technology are responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-based instruction that supports the school’s mission of preparing every student for success in post-secondary education and future careers. Teachers create inclusive and engaging learning environments, build strong relationships with students and families, and collaborate with colleagues to support the academic and personal growth of all students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, develop, and execute lesson plans.
  • Adapt teaching for individual students, small groups, and remedial instruction to meet the needs of identified students or subgroups of students.
  • Evaluate the academic and social growth of students.
  • Evaluate student progress and the ability to meet course standards.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior.
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Maintain professional competence through in -service training and education activities provided by WSST and/or in self-selected professional development opportunities.
  • Fulfill a student supervision duty during the day to maintain overall safety.
  • Collaborates with colleagues, parents, the community, and other agencies to foster student learning.
  • Perform other duties stated in Board Policies and or state statutes.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Establish and maintain productive, collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
  • Plan, organize, and complete work while meeting schedules and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Analyze assessment data to inform and improve instruction.
  • Apply best practices in curriculum, instruction, and student learning.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including preparing and delivering presentations.
  • Read, interpret, and apply policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Use computers and standard office software to complete job responsibilities.
  • Maintain effective interpersonal skills, including tact, patience, and courtesy.


BACKGROUND CHECKS:

  • The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
  • Must be able to obtain and hold a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times.


PHYSICAL/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Hear and speak to exchange information in person and on the telephone.
  • Communicate clearly so others are able to understand conversations and presentations.
  • Use hand and finger dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment and to handle documents.
  • See to read, prepare, and review documents and reports, and to monitor and supervise students.
  • Maintain the ability to return to tasks after interruptions and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Sit or stand for extended periods of time in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Demonstrate the stamina to work a full school day and occasionally supervise evening events or attend meetings.
  • Work at a desk, conference table, student classroom table, or in meetings in various configurations.
  • Hear and understand speech at normal conversational levels.
  • Kneel, bend at the waist, and reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull moderately heavy objects.
  • Move throughout the campus, including navigating stairs, hallways, and outdoor areas; elevator access may be available where applicable.
