Job Description:

Paulden Community School is a close-knit, rural K–8 school in the high desert of Yavapai County, committed to preparing students for high school and beyond. We believe the middle school years are a critical time for academic growth, identity development, and building lifelong habits of learning. Position summary: We are seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and relationship-driven educator to instruct students in grades 5 through 8. The ideal candidate brings content expertise, strong adolescent literacy strategies, and the ability to engage pre-teens and early teens in meaningful, rigorous academic work — all within a small, community-centered school setting.

Key responsibilities: 

• Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction in assigned subject area(s), including English language arts, mathematics, science, or social studies
• Build positive, respectful relationships with students that support adolescent development and academic motivation
• Use data from formative and summative assessments to drive instructional decisions and communicate progress to students and families
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, and English language learners
• Implement consistent classroom management strategies that maintain a safe, productive learning environment for older students
• Collaborate with the K–8 team on school-wide behavior expectations, transitions, and vertical alignment of curriculum
• Prepare students for state assessments (AzM2, AASA) and high school readiness milestones
• Communicate proactively with families about academic progress, behavior, and student wellbeing
• Participate in professional development, staff meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and school-wide events

Required qualifications:

• Experience in education or subject-area field
• IVP fingerprint clearance card (or ability to obtain one)
• Strong communication and organizational skills

Preferred qualifications:

• 2+ years of middle school teaching experience
• Subject-area endorsement (math, science, ELA, or social studies)
• Experience in a rural or small school setting
• SEI or ELL endorsement
• Training in adolescent literacy strategies
• Bilingual (English/Spanish)
