Job Description:

ASA’s mission is to inspire creative thinkers and leaders through providing an innovative concentration in college preparation informed by the performing arts.

This faculty member teaches the French language to high school students who take four consecutive years of one language. This person must be highly proficient/fluent in all four skill areas:  reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.  This instructor designs, plans, and implements a challenging and relevant curriculum for the levels assigned based upon the needs of the school; 11th and 12th grade classes require a faculty member that can facilitate Honors and Dual Enrollment levels of instruction.

Class sizes are approximately 28 students. Academic teachers have daily prep time for curriculum planning, meeting, integrating, and assessing. The teacher will be responsible for writing their own curriculum to align with state standards and are asked to differentiate their curriculum using additional resources as needed to support student growth and achievement. This teacher works closely with the Foreign Language Department and their grade level team. 

ASA teachers provide an academic curriculum that is rigorous, relevant, and aligned with ASA’s mission and core values. Curriculum development and implementation reflects Arizona State Standards layered with ASA’s innovative college prep focus that fosters intellectual curiosity, emphasizes active engagement, project-based learning, inquiry-based discussions, research, advanced written and oral skills, and collaboration.

This position reports to the Assistant Principal of Upper School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver standards-aligned lessons that are clear, engaging, and appropriately challenging.

• Establish a classroom environment that is safe, respectful, and conducive to learning.

• Build strong relationships with students; foster a sense of belonging and trust.

• Use a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.

• Differentiate instruction based on student readiness, interests, and learning profiles.

• Assess student learning regularly using formative and summative methods.

• Analyze data to adjust instruction and improve student outcomes.

• Provide timely, specific, and actionable feedback to students.

• Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and grades

• Communicate consistently and professionally with families about student progress and needs.

• Collaborate with colleagues to plan instruction, align curriculum, and support students.

• Participate in professional development and apply learning to improve practice.

• Implement school policies, procedures, and curriculum with fidelity.

• Support students’ social-emotional development alongside academic growth.

• Manage classroom behavior using proactive and restorative practices.

• Integrate technology effectively to enhance learning experiences.

• Uphold professional ethics, confidentiality, and legal responsibilities.

• Contribute to the broader school community through events, meetings, and initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in content area from an accredited four-year college or university. 

• Highly qualified. 

• Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Identity Verified Prints (IVP) card.

• Teaching experience or certification preferred but not required.
