JOB TITLE: COUNSELOR
DEPARTMENT: School
REPORTS TO: Principal
FLSA STATUS/CLASSIFICATION: Exempt; Certified
SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
SUMMARY:This positionprovides support and ensures students success in both academics and social skills for the School District.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Advise students, administrators, teachers and parents on matters concerning behavior management, testing, child growth/development and related curricular issues
· Provides knowledge of what consequences can occur if not dealt with appropriately
· Supervises other staff members on their practices of counseling
· Maintains and keeps current all required records and documents pertaining to students
· Consults with students, administrators, teachers and parents relative to academic, social, behavior, vocational or other personal problems
· Serves as Principal's liaison with various matters which relate directly to academic guidance for students
· Works closely with teachers/staff and parents in interpreting, evaluating and counseling students concerning their academic performance; teach required Arizona state curriculum
· Counsel all non-special and special education students
· Maintain effective communications with students, administrators, teachers and parents
· Attends meetings as required by the school or district
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
· Knowledge of District rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
· Knowledge of general legal requirements governing special education needs and disorders
· Knowledge of recommended policies and programs essential to the needs of exceptional children
· Knowledge of the purpose of counseling and the concept of individual differences in children
· Knowledge of principles of customer service methods and techniques
· Skill in group and individual counseling
· Skill in written and oral communications
· Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
· Masters Degree in counseling, guidance or equivalent
· Must possess current certified professional counseling certificate and/or counseling endorsement to AZ teaching certification
· Criminal justice/Fingerprint clearance
· Maintain requirements for access to Fort Huachuca
Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements
Computer Proficiency: Demonstrated general proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and job specific computer programs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position regularly works indoors. The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet to moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Will have contact with employees, external agencies and the public. May be exposed to infectious diseases, air, water and bodily fluid borne pathogens.
