Job Description: 2026-2027 School Psychologist
Essential Duties
Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations in accordance with IDEA, Arizona state law, and district procedures to determine eligibility for special education services.
Administer, score, and interpret cognitive, academic, social‑emotional, adaptive, and behavioral assessments to support eligibility decisions and program planning.
Generate and maintain all required special education documentation, including MET reports, evaluation summaries, and psychological records, ensuring compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and Arizona Administrative Code.
Participate as a facilitator and key member of the multidisciplinary evaluation team (MET) to determine eligibility, placement, and service needs for students with disabilities.
Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) using interviews, observations, data analysis, and evidence‑based assessment tools.
Develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) aligned to FBA findings, including measurable goals, intervention strategies, reinforcement systems, and progress‑monitoring procedures.
Provide classroom observations to gather data on student performance, environmental factors, and instructional variables; use findings to guide intervention recommendations and teacher support.
Consult and collaborate with teachers, administrators, and related service providers to design and implement evidence‑based academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional interventions.
Provide short‑term counseling or skill‑building support for students with identified needs, consistent with IEPs
Support general education intervention processes, including MTSS and Child Study Team (CST) meetings, by reviewing data, recommending interventions, and assisting with progress monitoring.
Assist with crisis intervention, including risk assessments, safety planning, and coordination with community mental health providers when appropriate.
Facilitate referrals to outside agencies for medical, psychological, or mental health evaluations when needed.
Provide professional development to staff on behavior supports, data collection, trauma‑informed practices, and special education processes as directed
Ensure fidelity of special education program implementation, including accommodations, modifications, and service delivery.
Maintain accurate, confidential records and ensure all timelines and procedural requirements are met.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the effective functioning of the special education department.
Minimum Education and Experience
Valid Arizona School Psychologist Certificate (recorded with Maricopa County School Superintendent).
Master’s degree in School Psychology or related field.
Demonstrated knowledge of special education law, disability categories, and evaluation procedures.
Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Experience working with diverse student populations and special education programs.
Other qualifications or equivalent experience, the Governing Board may deem appropriate and permissible under applicable state and federal law.
Preferred Education and Experience
Experience conducting FBAs, developing BIPs, and supporting MTSS/RTI systems.
Experience providing consultation and professional development to educators.
Experience supporting students with significant behavioral or social‑emotional needs.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of:
IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, and Arizona Administrative Code (Special Education).
Arizona K–12 academic standards and instructional practices.
State Performance Plan (SPP/APR) indicators and evaluation requirements.
Assistive technology and accommodations for diverse learners.
Behavioral assessment tools and evidence‑based interventions.
Skilled in:
Writing comprehensive MET reports and evaluation summaries.
Conducting FBAs and developing data‑driven BIPs.
Recommending appropriate accommodations and modifications.
Building strong relationships with staff, students, and families.
Data analysis, progress monitoring, and intervention planning.
Professional communication, public speaking, and facilitation.
Ability to:
Lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Design and deliver professional learning for staff.
Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, administrators, and students.
Interpret and explain special education processes, inclusion practices, and legal requirements.
Prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and maintain compliance.
Support teachers with challenging student behaviors through coaching and modeling.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to district and state policies.
Physical Demands
Ability to sit, stand, stoop, and use hands for extended periods.
Ability to lift or move materials as needed for assessments.
Visual and auditory ability required to conduct assessments and observations.
