JOB GOAL:  
To coordinate and give direction to Health Assistants and Nurses at all school sites. Creating and maintaining consistency at all schools and facilitating a school health program which will provide a climate of health and wellbeing in the District's schools 
 
QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A bachelor's degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution (preferred)
  2. Registered Nurse with a current Arizona License
  3. Current School Nurse Certification from the AZ Board of Nursing
  4. Minimum of four years experience as a school nurse
  5. CPR Certification for health care provider
  6. Organized, efficient office skills including computer
  7. Strong human relation skills
  8. Must have the ability to work independently, prioritize and make sound judgments and decisions in a wide variety of situations under pressure
  9. Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with students, parents, and staff
  10. Must pass a background clearance
  11. Must obtain an Arizona IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 218 Days; 11 Months
REPORTS TO:   Director of Special Education
EVALUATION:  Initial evaluation to be completed no later than ninety (90) days after first day of work; thereafter, annually by supervisor.
HOURS:  40 hours per week - Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:

  1. Engage in research and evaluation of school health services and acts as a change agent for the school health program.; Collects, verifies, and organizes health services data for use in monitoring and assessing health services.
  2. Plans, develops, interprets, standardizes, and evaluates health services in the schools.
  3. Assists in the hiring process for prospective health services personnel.
  4. Instructs new health services personnel and substitute health assistants regarding district policy and philosophy, specific health service procedures, and other duties and responsibilities.; Provides for ongoing in-service education of health service personnel through regular staff meetings.; Collaborates with State, County, and local agencies in providing health services for the students in all the schools.; Supports health service personnel, teachers, and administrators in implementing the health program in the District.
  5. Acts as a resource person for principals, health service personnel, teachers, parents, and District leadership. Provides problem analysis and risk management.; Assists the school principals dealing with performance problems of health services staff.; Manages the health services budget.
  6. Participates in professional development related to school health issues.
  7. Assists in planning health centers for all new schools and evaluates the adequacy of those already in operation.; Supervises and evaluates health services personnel.
  8. Regularly communicates health service program activities to administrators.
  9. Assists in developing District policies regarding health matters and overseeing the District Health Handbook.; Supervision of health assistants is provided only when on site; supervision is provided by building principal at all other times.
  10. Attends meetings (e.g. in-service training, faculty meetings, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information.; Performs other job-related duties as assigned to advance district priorities.
