Kindergarten Teacher Job Description 

 

Position Title: Kindergarten Teacher

Reports To: Principal / Instructional Leader 

Employment Type: Full-Time, Certified 

 

Position Summary 

The Kindergarten Teacher is responsible for building a strong academic foundation while fostering curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning. Kindergarten at our school is intentionally exploratory and foundational, designed to introduce students to structured learning in a way that is engaging, joyful, and developmentally appropriate. 

 

This role emphasizes early literacy, numeracy, routines, and independence, with the overarching goal that students feel successful, safe, and excited to learn every day. 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

 

Instruction & Curriculum 

- Deliver high-quality, standards-aligned instruction in early literacy, early math, science, and social studies 

- Design interactive, exploratory, and engaging lessons with clear structure 

- Balance direct instruction with guided practice and exploration 

- Build early academic stamina and classroom habits 

- Maintain instructional pacing with flexibility for mastery 

 

Assessment & Data Use 

- Administer and track formative and benchmark assessments 

- Monitor student progress and identify learning gaps 

- Maintain accurate records and adjust instruction based on data 

 

Classroom Environment & Routines 

- Create a warm, welcoming classroom 

- Establish clear routines and procedures 

- Maintain an orderly and predictable learning environment 

- Ensure students associate learning with success and enjoyment 

 

Student Support & Intervention 

- Provide small-group or individualized academic support 

- Collaborate with support staff for students with IEPs, 504s, or language needs 

- Document interventions and progress 

 

Family Communication & Professional Collaboration 

- Communicate regularly with families 

- Participate in conferences and school events 

- Collaborate with staff and contribute to school culture 

 

Professional Responsibilities 

- Attend professional development and meetings 

- Maintain certifications 

- Follow school policies and procedures 

 

Qualifications 

Required: 

- Arizona Elementary Teaching Certification or ability to obtain 

- Knowledge of early childhood development 

- Strong classroom management and communication skills 

 

Preferred: 

- Kindergarten or early elementary teaching experience 

 

Physical & Work Requirements 

- Ability to move throughout a two-story campus 

- Ability to walk stairs multiple times per day 

- Ability to escort students using crosswalks 

- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds 

- Ability to supervise indoors and outdoors 

 

Performance Indicators 

- Student growth in literacy and numeracy 

- Positive, structured classroom environment 

- Timely completion of duties and documentation
