Certified School Psychologist

JOB GOAL

To improve the school educational experience of the students in the Cartwright School District.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree or higher from a NASP or APA approved program in School Psychology.
  • A valid Arizona School Psychologist certificate.
  • Proficiency in all computer functions including word processing.
  • Must be able to type your own reports.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assesses difficulties of referred students through appropriate testing and diagnostic practices.
  • Administers tests and recommends placement for exceptional children within the limits of applicable state regulations.
  • Helps identify within the school all types of exceptional children.
  • Maintains a case record on all referred students.
  • Recommends corrective procedures.
  • Confers with teachers and parents whenever necessary.
  • Consults on the educational needs of children in all special education programs.
  • Attends case conferences on the placement of individual students.
  • Serves as a consultant on mental health topics in the schools.
  • Member of  504 Team at the assigned schools.
  • Chairs Child Study team at assigned schools.
  • Interprets school psychological services for teachers and parents.
  • Prepares and submits required reports on children in special education programs.
  • Cooperates with personnel of community health and social welfare agencies.
  • Acts as liaison between the School District and Special Education departments in other school districts.
  • Attends staff, professional and interagency meetings.
  • Assists with in-service training of school personnel.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the field.
  • Assumes leadership positions for all special education programs on site.
  • Conducts workshops and in-services for special education and regular education staff on various topics as needed or directed by Special Services.
  • Possesses the ability to engage in short-term counseling.
  • Possesses the ability to perform functional behavioral assessments and participate with other team members in developing behavior intervention plans.
  • Is integral in developing proactive interventions for children (regular and special education) experiencing discipline problems.
  • Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Special Services and building principal.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable Cartwright School District and departmental policies and procedures.
