Job Description:

Summary of Function

To plan, organize, and implement an excelling learning environment that guides and encourages students to meet their educational potential.  The principal will promote and maintain high student achievement by providing curricular and instructional leadership, and managing overall school site operations.  Is responsible for receiving, distributing and communicating information to enforce school, District, and State policies and initiatives.

Qualifications

Qualifications include:

  • Valid AZ Department of Education Administrative Certificate required

  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from an accredited college or university required

    • Emphasis in supervision, organizational structure, and elementary curriculum preferred

  • AZ Department of Education Certification required; Dual Certification preferred

  • Structured English Immersion (SEI) endorsement, English as a Second Language (ESL) or Bilingual endorsement is required within one year of hire

  • Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

  • Bilingual in Spanish or Navajo preferred

 

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Establishes and maintains a positive and effective learning environment with a focus on engagement with learners to enable their understanding and application of knowledge, concepts and process.

  2. Ensures the effective delivery of an instructional program that meets the needs of all students.

  3. Fosters an environment that encourages staff to be innovative with instructional strategies and collaborative with other staff for the purpose of meeting student needs.

  4. Provides leadership to the faculty in the ongoing process of evaluating the effectiveness and directing the improvement of educational programming. Takes responsibility for students’ learning and achievement.  

  5. Provides leadership in the analysis of current programs and student achievement results and the integration of this analysis into curriculum development activities aligned with District/school goals. 

  6. Implements systems, processes and planning functions that are consistent with effective organizational leadership, academic achievement, climate safety, budget efficiency, and employee/student performance. 

  7. Leads faculty, staff, parents and the community to work collaboratively to fulfill the goals and mission of the school. 

  8. Effectively responds to and resolves issues that arise in and outside the school environment that affect the successful operation of the school and student programming. Models good human relations skills and interacts positively with all facets of the school community. 

  9. Works with members of the central administrative staff on school opportunities which may include such topics as transportation, special services, and student academic performance. 

  10. Provides leadership and coordination to all staff development activities in the building, ensuring the alignment of these activities with building-based school improvement areas. 

  11. Champions district policies and administrative regulations.

  12. Plans, develops, implements, and monitors a school budget consistent with collaboratively identified building goals and improvement initiatives. 

  13. Responsible for the performance development, management and evaluation of all staff. 

  14. Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes. 

  15. Supervises and evaluates the school/s extracurricular programs. 

  16. Actively contributes and participates in district initiatives. 

  17. Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and maintenance of health of students.

  18. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.

  19. Coordinates building maintenance in cooperation with the Facilities Department.

  20. Establishes and maintains open and honest lines of communication with key stakeholders

  21. Approves the master teaching schedule and any special assignments.

  22. Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Skills & Abilities

  1. Current knowledge of school improvement planning and characteristics of effective school operations. 

  2. Ability to write reports and correspondence consistent with duties of this position.

  3. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts and feedback.

  4. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse ethnic and socioeconomic communities.

  5. Knowledge of the principles of site-based shared decision-making and demonstrated ability to facilitate a collaborative team atmosphere. 

  6. Current knowledge of theory and practice in special education programming, including inclusion, discipline, IEP development and implementation.

  7. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints.

  8. Ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate statistical data derived from qualitative and/or quantitative research.

  9. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations.

  10. Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions, and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism.

  11. Ability to use independent judgment and demonstrates initiative to act without being asked.
