Job Summary

The Human Resources Specialist Senior on the Compensation team at the Maricopa Community Colleges District Office plays an important role in supporting the college system's workforce.

The Human Resources Specialist Senior position leads and performs advanced paraprofessional work, involving data review, research, technical support, and administrative duties for assigned HR functions and programs. Examples of this work include conducting research and analysis, interpreting policies and procedures, and supporting daily compensation operations.

As part of the Classification & Compensation team, the position helps maintain and improve core HR structures, supporting consistency, accuracy, and equity across Maricopa Community College's compensation program.

Essential Functions

20% - Performs research, collects data, and performs basic analysis and interpretation of data related to human resources functions/programs:

• Prepares recurring and ad hoc reports utilizing human resources information systems (HRIS) to support human resources functions;

• Runs human resources data queries to develop compensation reports

20% - Conducts audits of employee records and files to ensure that documents are maintained and in order:

• Responds to record requests from internal and external parties;

• Verifies that all requests are appropriate and in alignment with policies, processes, and procedures;

• Organizes and maintains records, files, logs, and data according to established procedures;

• Develops procedures for records and maintains them;

• Follows established procedures for records retention and disposition

15% - Enters position management transactions in HRIS systems for new positions, position updates, and verifies that appropriate job data is being utilized:

• Enters employee service awards and other related transactions into the HRIS systems;

• Utilizes HRIS systems to enter, update, edit, and maintain data management for program documentation purposes

15% - Designs, composes, and formats basic documents, correspondence, and presentations:

• Coordinates and administers human resources administrative activities

• Assists with developing training materials for the assigned area

20% - Responds to requests and provides recommendations for the resolution of issues and discrepancies according to established processes and procedures:

• Responds to employee inquiries and provides general information and guidance

• Research payroll documents, human resources information systems, and time and labor to resolve inquiries from employees regarding pay and/or data errors

10% - Adheres to, reviews, and ensures compliance with applicable laws, policies, procedures, and advises employees and managers on policies

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and four (4) years of work experience in human resources, customer service, general office work, or administrative support and coordination. The required experience can come from any combination of the areas listed.

There is no substitution or equivalency allowable for the High School Diploma or GED.

An equivalent combination of education and/or experience as described above, sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience with compensation or classification work in a large or public-sector organization (e.g., reviewing job specifications, evaluating job classifications, or supporting salary administration).

• Experience conducting research and analysis related to compensation, salary structures, job classifications, or HR policies.

• Experience managing or processing position actions, such as creating new positions, updating job data, or maintaining organizational structures.

• Strong attention to detail demonstrated through work involving data accuracy, audits, or reviewing complex materials.

Special Working Conditions

May be required to lift or carry up to 25lbs.

May be required to sit for a prolonged period of time, viewing a computer monitor.
