Salary Range:

$75,000.00 - $84,500.00 USD annually.

The Senior General Ledger (GL) Accountant is responsible for leading the general ledger function by owning complex journal entries, reviewing reconciliations, and driving process improvements while assisting with financial reporting and audits. This role is responsible for managing complex journal entries, reviewing and reconciling accounts, and maintaining accurate records.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), preferred. 
  • 4-6+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in general ledger or financial accounting, auditing and/or financial analysis or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • K-12 School finance experience is a plus. 
  • Active AZ Department of Public Safety (DPS) IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and update the general ledger to ensure all transactions are properly recorded.
  • Own and manage the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations, prepaid expenses, unearned revenue, fixed asset and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare and review journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Provide ongoing GL and accounting support for grant reporting and compliance.
  • Identify, recommend and implement improvements to streamline GL processes and enhance efficiency.
  • Prepare and provide GL reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other departments to address financial discrepancies and resolve issues.
  • Manage the accounting system and maintain the chart of accounts with timely updates.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes by providing accurate and timely financial data.
  • Assist in reviews of financial and internal controls to meet management objectives and ensure the safeguarding of assets.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting principles(e.g., GAAP) and USFRCS.  
  • Support annual financial audits by preparing and providing necessary data.
  • Provide technical support and training to sites as needed.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and macros)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial accounting principles, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of internal control systems and procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Skill in performing complex numerical calculations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
