Position: Behavioral Counselor

Job Information: Certified-10 Month contract

Compensation: DOE, sick leave, holidays, retirement,

workers’ comp, life and health insurance.

 

Requirements and Qualifications

·         Masters degree in school counseling or related field

·         Valid Arizona School Counselor Certification

·         Excellent ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and to meet deadline while

working with constant interruptions and minimum supervision; accuracy and attention to

detail a must

·         Ability to assume responsibility, exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality of

materials and information.

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·         Ability to obtain and maintain an AZ IVP fingerprint clearance

·         Must maintain a clean driving record

 

Job Description

Must be a compassionate, proactive and student-centered counselor and be committed to supporting student success through academic monitoring, emotional support and community engagement.  This role is essential in fostering a safe, inclusive and supportive school environment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

·         Provide counseling minutes for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP) as required.

·         Conduct weekly grade checks for students who are failing and collaborate with staff to support academic achievement.

·         Serve as the coordinator for the school’s food pantry, ensuring students and families have access to essential resources.

·         Serve as lead for the Child Study Team

·         Provide classroom coverage for teachers when needed.

·         Walk school grounds regularly to check in with students and promote a safe and welcoming campus environment.

·         Build and maintain positive relationships with students, staff and families.

·         Assist students with academic, social and emotional needs as they arise.

·         Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to promote student well-being and success.

·         Other duties as assigned.

 

Preferred Skills

·         Familiarity with IEP processes and documentation

·         Experience with student support services and community resource coordination.

·         Ability to manage responsibilities in a dynamic school environment.

Work Environment-General office and campus environment. This position regularly works throughout entire campus. The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet to moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Will have contact with other employees, students, parents, external agencies and the public.
