Job Description:

TITLE: Dean of Students

CONTRACT TERMS: Extended Year 

SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Professional Specialist Salary Schedule

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

·      Coordinates, facilitates and implements disciplinary intervention steps with staff, working closely with building administrator, and district administration

·      Motivate students in a positive manner which will help students increase individual decision making responsibilities

·      Attend and participate in various leadership team meetings and other building meetings as assigned and be prepared to share concerns regarding disciplinary issues

·      Work successfully and positively with all students who have received disciplinary referrals to provide them with assistance in meeting their educational needs

·      Process and administer discipline consequences which includes, but is not limited to, ensuring the due process is met for all students, attendance at IEP and Manifestation hearings as needed and attendance at disciplinary hearings if required

·      Monitor student behavior (before and after school, lunch, hallways, campus)

·      Bus Duty- monitor bus activities

·      Assist with school wide and event supervision

·      Behavior contracts- placement of students at risk on behavior contracts/monitor behavior/parent contracts

·      Record keeping- maintain accurate records on discipline, parent contacts, intervention strategies, etc.

·      Prepare disciplinary reports for monthly board reports

·      Attendance and behavior incentive programs- coordinating and administration of attendance and behavior incentives on monthly basis

·      Supervision of ISS and other staff associated with discipline referrals and issues

·      Required to follow Board policies and keep abreast of updates and changes

·      Works with community and tribal agencies on problems relating to drug & alcohol abuse and truancy

·      Works cooperatively with local police agencies and the School Resource Officer on security matters

·      Serves as liaison between school and home

·      Responsible for Safety Committee

·      Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

ACCEPTABLE EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

·      Demonstrate the ability to work successfully and positively with all students and parents to provide them with assistance in meeting their educational needs

·      Demonstrate the ability to communicate orally and in writing with clarity and conciseness

·      Ability to communicate effectively and resolve conflict

·      Ability to support and value the efforts of ongoing cultural community projects and events

·      Skills and ability to serve as an educational leader including the ability to plan, organize, and facilitate staff meetings, planning processes, and cultural community projects and events

·      3 years demonstrated successful teaching experience at middle school level

EDUCATION/LICENSURE: Must possess the following:

·       Master’s Degree in Education

·       Arizona Teacher Certification

·       Arizona fingerprint clearance card
