Job Description:
The High School Principal shall provide instructional leadership, administrative support, plant management and supervisory skills for the educational development of students, as well as to promote parent and community involvement. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are vital to being a successful High School Principal. High School Principals also need to be engaging leaders and motivators, able to make decisions and manage their time well.
Achieving academic excellence requires that the school Principal work collaboratively to direct and nurture all members of the school staff and to communicate effectively with parents. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for scheduling, curriculum development, extracurricular activities, personnel management, emergency procedures, and facility operations.
Provide leadership in meeting school improvement goals, plans and management of daily school functions.
Manage, evaluate, and supervise effective clear procedures for the operation and functioning of a school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values and goals of the district.
Knowledge of current laws governing public schools.
Assist in the selection and mentoring of staff.
Supervise and evaluate certified and classified staff.
Supervises the creation of reports, records, and lists
Establish the annual master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for students.
Provide leadership in developing and maintaining a safe, orderly, attractive and welcoming school environment.
Provide leadership in the development and administration of policies dealing with discipline, conduct, attendance andcommunicate those policies and procedures to students, staff, and parents.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate high school or adult education level instructional programs and services.
Develop innovative strategies, preventative approaches, and proactive plans for students who exhibit at risk behaviors.
Cooperate with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the juvenile court system, and social service agencies.
Oversee the supervision of school activities I.e., dances, concerts, sports, orientation programs, plays, musicals, field trips, andother special events.
Develop and implement an effective plan to increase parental and community involvement at school and home to assist in assuring student educational success.
Ensures that students are meeting graduation requirements.
Current, valid principal’s certificate as required by the Arizona Department of Education.
Master's degree or greater or Ph.D. in Educational Administration from an accredited institution.
3-5 years experience in educational administration.
Knowledge of current research on curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
Strong organizational and communication skills including ability to handle confidential matters.
The ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the community.
SMUSD operates on a 4 day work week (Tuesday - Friday)
