Job Description:

Principal Objectives/Purpose

The ACYR/CVHS team builds pathways to success through education, skill building and employment opportunities to help youth and young adults reach self-sufficiency. The team plays a crucial role in promoting a culture of positivity, growth mindset, and hospitality by offering high-energy educational activities and services that create a welcoming environment. Every member of the team is charged to build relationships and trust with youth and young adults to maintain relationships that foster them continuing in their planned services. Our team also serves as an integral component with connecting to our community and spreading/demonstrating the mission of ACYR/CVHS.

The English Language Certified Teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that promotes academic achievement for all students. The HQT demonstrates deep content knowledge, effective instructional strategies, and a commitment to equity and continuous improvement. This role aligns with the requirements of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and applicable state mandates.

The English Language Certified Teacher at CVHS is also responsible for providing instruction with a trauma-informed lens to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment that addresses both the academic and emotional needs of all students. This educator demonstrates subject matter expertise, a commitment to equitable education, and the ability to implement trauma-sensitive practices that promote student resilience, engagement, and achievement.

Essential Functions

  1. Instructional Excellence: Deliver high-quality, culturally responsive instruction aligned with academic standards.
  2. Trauma Informed Classroom Culture: Establish and maintain a safe, predictable, and inclusive classroom that promotes emotional regulation and psychological safety.
  3. Student Relationship & Engagement: Build trusting, responsive relationships with students to foster engagement and resilience.
  4. Family & Community Partnership: Partner with families, caregivers and community agencies to support holistic student development.
  5. Professional Growth & Collaboration: Engage in continuous learning and contribute to a trauma-informed school culture.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must hold a bachelor's degree in appropriate subject area or hold a bachelor's degree with 24-plus semester hours of study in appropriate subject area.
  • Must hold a valid ArizonaTeaching Certification in English Language Arts
  • Strong communications skills are critical, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to work independently and part of a team.
  • Ability to commit to teamwork and establishing effective working relationships.
  • Willingness to consistently display a positive attitude and image of the agency and school, as well as provide high quality, effective customer service in all facets of communication.
  • Must consistently engage in learning and developing new skills and approaches.
  • Understands and utilizes positive youth development and educational practices in all levels of work.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with opportunity young adults.
  • Bi-lingual/Bi-cultural a plus

Background Check

Must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Misdemeanor and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and how recent. The background check will consist of a reference checks, employment, education, and criminal background search. Email verification with the Arizona Department of Education's Investigations Unit for any ongoing investigation or open incident that have not been resolved. This check will be initiated by ACYR's Resource Manager and a contract offer is contingent upon a "no ongoing investigation and/or no unresolved issue(s)" response from ADE.

ACYR is an at-will employer and any offer of employment with ACYR is contingent upon a successful completion of said background check.

Certification/Licenses/Other Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Valid Arizona State Teacher's Certification (9-12) in appropriate subject area
  • Valid Arizona Level II Identity Verification Print Card (Fingerprint Clearance Card)
  • NES/AEPA Content Certificate
  • Reading Endorsement
  • SEI or ESL or Bilingual Endorsement
  • Copy of complete transcripts

Physical Demands

Requires energetic interactions between the ACYR team members and students. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to clients or the public and to convey detailed spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly. Ability to interact with students during activities also required.
