Job Description:

Kingman Unified School District #20 invites you to apply for the position of Elementary & Middle School Counselor for the 2025-26 school year.

 

Summary/Objective

To counsel, provide a comprehensive guidance program for students, and offer crisis intervention services to individuals and groups.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Respond to all internal and external customers, as it relates to job, in a prompt, efficient, friendly, and patient manner.
  2. Counsel groups or individual students in the development of educational and career plans.
  3. Counsel small groups and individual students with problems; refer severe problems to appropriate community resources.
  4. Consult with teachers, staff and parents regarding meeting the developmental needs of students.
  5. Conduct counseling activities in the classroom, in conjunction with administration and teachers.
  6. Respond to crisis situations, as needed.
  7. Proctor standardized exams, as needed.
  8. Maintain the confidentiality of protected student and staff member information even after no longer employed.
  9. Maintain knowledge of and adhere to all policies, regulations and rules.
  10. Perform related duties as assigned in a safe and prudent manner.

This job primarily operates within the school environment.

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  1. Regularly required to communicate, detect, converse with, discern, convey, express oneself, and exchange information with staff, students, community partners and visitors.
  2. Regularly required to detect, determine, perceive, identify, recognize, judge, observe, inspect, estimate, and assess details as needed to complete job functions.
  3. Regularly required to remain stationary.
  4. Regularly required to move around office and locations as needed.
  5. Occasionally move, transport, position, put, install, and remove items up to 50 pounds as needed.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is an exempt, full-time position, contracted for 162 days between July and June. Employee will work ten hours per day Monday through Thursday. Employee may need to work extended hours.

 

Required Education and Experience

Master’s or more advanced degree from an accredited institution. Official transcripts must document completion of a graduate program in one of the following: guidance and counseling; counseling, social work or psychology; or academic advising.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

Experience working with children

 

Required Certifications/Licenses

Standard School Counselor, PreK-12 Certificate issued by the Arizona Department of Education

 

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
