Tempe Preparatory Academy, a nationally recognized 6th–12th grade liberal arts charter school, is now accepting applications for a 3/4-time, 8th-grade Science Teacher for the 2025–2026 academic year. Our curriculum emphasizes classical education, the Great Books, and the Socratic Method, and we are seeking an inspiring educator to lead students through a rigorous and engaging course in Earth and Space Science.
About the Role:
The 8th-grade Earth & Space Science course introduces students to foundational concepts in geology, meteorology, astronomy, and environmental science. Students explore the structure of the Earth, natural phenomena such as earthquakes and volcanoes, weather systems, the solar system, and the broader universe, all while applying the scientific method and strengthening critical thinking skills. This course serves as an essential bridge to high school-level sciences and promotes curiosity about the natural world.
This position may also include additional teaching responsibilities in middle school science or elective offerings, based on the candidate's expertise and school needs.
Qualifications
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant science field or equivalent qualification in secondary science education
Must meet Highly Qualified status under Arizona guidelines or be willing to obtain certification
Teaching experience preferred, particularly with grades 6–8
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to cultivate a structured, respectful, and intellectually vibrant environment
Passion for classical education and student-centered instruction using the Socratic Method
Excellent verbal and written communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Key Responsibilities
Deliver dynamic instruction aligned with the school’s mission and curriculum map
Engage students in rich dialogue and inquiry-based learning that fosters scientific reasoning
Assess student understanding regularly and adjust instruction accordingly
Collaborate with faculty to design interdisciplinary projects and maintain curriculum coherence across grade levels
Maintain consistent communication with students and families to support academic growth and character development
Contribute to the school culture by upholding high behavioral expectations and mentoring students during extracurricular or community events
