JOB TITLE:                         Exceptional Education Services Teacher (ESS Teacher)

SUPERVISOR:                    Principal/CEO

DEPARTMENT:                  Exceptional Student Services  

TERM:                                09 Months

JOB SUMMARY:  To provide support and instruction to the Exceptional Student Service (ESS) students in classroom setting and follow through all ESS guidelines & procedures in alignment to the students’ Individual Education Plans.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.       Work with students in the general education classroom to complete assignments/tests, reteach lessons, ensure availability of assistive technology, and ensure appropriate accommodations are provided.

2.      Collaborate with content area teachers in providing appropriate educational instruction, accommodations and assistive technology for the students as specified in the students’ Individual Education Plan (IEP).

3.      Monitor student progress in the general education classes to ensure progress in the curriculum and provide case management.

4.      Keep on-going records of student progress and delivery of services.

5.      Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interest, and abilities of the students in accordance with BIE, Arizona, and GAHS requirements for curriculum.

6.      Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum and IEP goals.

7.       Assist students in setting and maintaining acceptable standards of classroom behavior.

8.      Employ a variety of instruction techniques and instruction media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and needs and capabilities of the students.

9.      Assist student in becoming self-directed learners.

10.   Understand and apply knowledge about student growth and development in order to provide maximum student learning.

11.    Assess the accomplishment of student on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.

12.   Provide direction/assignments to Paraprofessionals for student assistance.

13.   Prepare substitute handbook and lesson plans in timely manner.

14.   Display knowledge of the Special Education process, procedures, and requirements.

15.   Actively gather information required for the creation, review, and updating of IEPs to include transition assessment and transition plan, and considerations in METs and progress meetings; be an active member of IEP and MET teams.

16.   Prepare IEP documentations that align with external audits, including transition plans.

17.   Work with the general education teachers in the implementation of the IEP.

18.   Provide support to the parents in the requirements and implementation of the IEP.

19.   Provide training and support in the Special Education process and procedures to parents, students, and school personnel.

20.  Assist the ESS Coordinator, Assistant Principal, and Principal in implementing all policies and rules governing student behavior and conduct; for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and equitable manner; enforce safety precautions and guidelines to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

21.   Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulations.

22.  Maintain and improve personal professional competence by attending approved profession growth and development conferences, workshops, meetings, and university level courses.

23.  Make provisions to be available for educational related purposes outside the educational day when required or requested.

24.  Participate in school goal setting achievement and assessment.

25.  Adhere to CDC guidelines, clean, disinfect surfaces and equipment’s on high touched areas, follow SDS specifications, maximize fresh air ventilation, wear PPE during cleaning process, regularly wash hands, and use hand sanitizer. Wear face mask.

26.  Demonstrate a high level of employee morale to promote a positive and productive work environment for all stakeholders.

27.  Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

·         A Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education or related field:

·         Completed at least two (2) years of experience as a Special Education teacher;

·         Successful employment history for three (3) consecutive years with one employer;

·         A valid Arizona Special Education Teaching Certificate, in the disability areas of LD, ED, and/or cross-categorical (other disability areas will be evaluated, dependant on the needs of the student enrollment teaching certificate for designated position;

·         Skills exhibited in the planning, human relations, personal/professional skills, and the Special Education process, procedures, and documentation requirements;

·         Skill in organizational and record keeping skills;

·         Ability to operate computer/software technology;

·         Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents;

·         Knowledge of the regulations and procedures specified in BIE, Arizona, and Federal procedures and regulations for PL108-446, also referred to as IDEA 2004;

·         Knowledge and experience working with SPED Programs/Departments;

·         Knowledge of models to deliver services to students identified with special needs, including inclusion, collaboration, co-teaching, self-contained, and pull-out;

·         Must pass Federal, State, and Tribal background checks;

·         Must have a Basic First Aid, CPR certification and Food Handlers Permit;

·         Must have a valid Arizona State Driver’s License;

·         Such alternative qualifications as the School Board may find acceptable and appropriate.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·         A Master’s Degree in Special Education or related educational field;

·         Completed five years (5) experience in working with students in a classroom setting;
