QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates Degree or two years of college or 48 credit hours or pass state examination
- Must demonstrate aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities as specified by the supervisor
- Must have a desire & compassion to work with children who have special needs
- Must be in good physical health
- Member of Gila River Indian Community preferred
REPORTS TO: Building Principal or designee
JOB GOAL: To work closely with one or more students with special needs on a regular basis by providing both the physical and emotional support needed to gain full benefits within the district’s Special Education Program. Must also be willing to serve as a bus monitor and/or drive a school van to transport students to and from a variety of destinations within the community or surrounding communities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works under supervision of the special education teacher with small groups of students to reinforce instruction.
- Collaborates with supervising teacher(s) in planning and delivering lessons and in
- discussions regarding the progress of students.
- Assists assigned student(s) with physical tasks such as putting on and taking off outerwear, feeding, diapering and toileting skills if necessary.
- Assists students with mobility issues to ensure that students get from class to class, to and from busses, etc.
- Assists with the set-up and maintenance of developmentally appropriate learning activities and environment.
- Assists substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Maintains mandated levels of ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
- Assists staff with the supervision of students during emergency drills, play periods and field trips.
- Participates in the implementation of district mandated paperwork including IEPs and Behavioral Plans.
- Performs clerical tasks (e.g. making copies, filing, etc.) for the purpose of helping the teacher to prepare instructional materials.
- Performs and participates in other duties and trainings as assigned by the supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine and one-half 9 month contract as per approved school calendar. Salary to be established by the Governing Board’s approval of the Salary Schedule.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Staff Personnel
