6th & 7th Grade Social Studies
Tempe Preparatory Academy is now accepting resumes to fill a vacancy in the Middle School Humanities department. Tempe Prep is a prestigious 6-12th grade preparatory charter school in Tempe, Arizona, emphasizing the Great Books and the Socratic Method. Students at TPA study foundational math disciplines through Calculus.
We are currently seeking a 6th and 7th-grade Social Studies teacher. The 6th-grade curriculum explores world history from early human societies through the European Renaissance, with key units including the Fertile Crescent, Ancient Eastern Civilizations, and Ancient Western Civilizations. The 7th-grade curriculum continues this journey, examining global history from the Age of Discovery to the modern era. Both courses are designed to promote critical thinking, historical inquiry, and interdisciplinary connections, while also reinforcing language arts skills across the curriculum.
The eligible candidate must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the subject area or be highly qualified in the subject matter. Although not a requirement, teaching experience is highly valued.

Teaching: The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate effective teaching, including the use of the Socratic method. The candidate should also possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and effective problem-solving skills. The candidate should be able to work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and deliver a challenging and innovative curriculum using adopted course maps.
Classroom Management: The candidate will be able to create, monitor, and sustain a disciplined school culture of high academic and behavioral standards and provide structure in the classroom by developing and reinforcing school-wide rules and expectations. Ideally, the candidate will have experience managing young adults (ages 11-13).
Data Analysis: The candidate will be able to develop and use various assessment data to refine curricula and instructional practices to ensure the success of all students.
Student Support and School Culture: The candidate should be able to communicate effectively, maintain strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues, and develop and maintain a positive and strong classroom culture.
Compensation: The salary for this position depends on degrees earned and teaching experience and is market-competitive. Compensation also includes the potential for performance pay incentives as well as full health benefits and 401(k).
