Position Summary:
The Principal is the administrative and instructional leader of the school, assuming full responsibility for all aspects of site management, including, but not limited to the following: implementation of the instructional program, facilities operation, school/community relations, and the employment, effective utilization and continued development of staff and faculty. The Principal provides strategic leadership by utilizing data to identify goals, assessing the effectiveness of specific programs or processes, and to promote continued growth and development for all students and staff.
 
Essential Functions:

  • Serves as the instructional leader for the campus; organizes and administers an educational program which provides the greatest level of learning opportunities to students.
  • Facilitates the development, articulation, implementation and management of a shared vision aligned with the District’s mission and core values.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of the Arizona College and Career Ready Standards and its alignment to the District’s Continuous Improvement Plan.
  • Ensures that the school’s curriculum, instructional strategies and assessment practices are designed to maximize teacher effectiveness and student learning.
  • Encourages a school culture and programs that support student/staff learning, professional growth, and effective working relationships.
  • Maintains and communicates purpose and direction which demonstrate commitment to high expectations for learning and shared values and beliefs about teaching and learning.
  • Manages the campus, operations and resources for a safe, efficient, effective and legally compliant learning and working environment.
  • Ensures that the campus operates under governance and leadership which promotes and supports student performance and school effectiveness.
  • Implements and maintains a comprehensive assessment system encompassing a wide range of data relevant to student learning and school effectiveness; uses data to guide continuous school improvement.
  • Ensures that the school has resources and services that support its purpose and direction of ensuring success for all students.
  • Works in collaboration with stakeholders and is responsive to diverse interests and needs; mobilizes resources to address identified needs as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates effective management of human resources to include personnel selection, development, supervision, retention, assignment, evaluation and dismissal.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the political, social, economic, legal and cultural contexts impacting the school and District.
  • Acts fairly, ethically, and with integrity at all times.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, recommending for hire, training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Prepares and administers budgets connected with assigned campus.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with policies and applicable laws
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


Other:

Training and Experience:

  • Master’s degree or higher from an accredited university.
  • A minimum of five to seven years of prior experience as a successful Assistant Principal or Principal.

 
Licensing/Certification Requirements:

  • Valid Arizona Principal Certificate.
  • Valid Arizona DPS fingerprint clearance card.

 
Knowledge of:

  • Arizona state academic standards and research-based instruction.

 
Skill In:

  • Demonstrates the ability and desire to provide outstanding customer service.
  • Must have an excellent memory and the ability to function well under varying levels of stress.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and assistance.
  • Maintaining confidential and/or sensitive information as appropriate.
  • Keeping abreast of current trends and information pertinent to the job.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and standard educational/office software.
  • Proactively seeking and recommending alternative approaches and potential solutions to problems.
  • Using technology effectively.
  • Responding promptly to questions and requests; seeking assistance when appropriate.
  • Assessing needs and recommending improvements for assigned site.
  • Actively continuing education and memberships in professional organizations that will promote continued growth.
  • Ensuring that s/he is accessible to District employees, parents, and community.
  • Developing positive working relationships with employees, community members, and the Governing Board.
  • Maintaining a well-groomed and professional appearance.

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, crawling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pushing, reaching, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
 
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
