Job Summary:

 

  • Under the direction of the Chief Auditor, the Audit Supervisor is responsible for supervising one auditor performing Average Daily Membership audits at school districts and charter schools and other audits as assigned. Public school districts and charter schools receive Basic State Aid passed through to them from the Arizona Department of Education. The Average Daily Membership audits search for fraud, waste, and abuse in the expenditure of these dollars.
  • The Audit Supervisor supervises the day-to-day audit process for each assigned audit according to established audit principles, theories, concepts, and practices and supervises one auditor assigned to an audit.

·         Occasional in-state travel is required for this position.

 

The Arizona Department of Education currently utilizes a hybrid work environment, with up to two days of remote work (contingent upon business needs).  Candidates should apply with an ability and willingness to work in-office up to five days per week as business needs necessitate.

 

Job Duties:

 

  • Supervises, advises, reviews, and evaluates the work product and work in progress of an auditor, answers the assigned auditor's questions and resolves audit issues
  • Ensures that the audit work is performed and documented properly in audit working papers and according to audit standards using appropriate audit and analytic techniques
  • Reviews the assigned auditor's working papers in a timely manner, writing and following up on review points as necessary
  • Coordinates and schedules all preliminary and fieldwork for each assigned audit
  • Ensures that an audit engagement letter is developed, signed, and sent to each auditee; sets up and holds an entrance conference with each auditee, making sure to fully answer all auditee questions
  • Identifies and communicates audit work, conclusions, findings, and report presentations to the Chief Auditor for review and approval
  • Sets up, leads, and documents finding outlining meetings and discusses possible ways to present the audit findings in the audit report
  • Communicates audit findings to district and charter management
  • Sets up and holds fieldwork and draft exit meetings making sure to solicit feedback and fully answer all auditees' questions
  • Ensures that all post audit tasks are completed, including filling out the School Finance adjustment and budget capacity form as necessary and preparing for the audit appeal processes as necessary

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

 

Knowledge in:

  • Supervision techniques
  • Principles, practices, concepts, methods, and techniques of auditing and internal control structures
  • Reference materials such as auditing standards, state and federal laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures as they apply to government accounting and auditing standards
  • A Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field, or equivalent experience to substitute for the degree, is required.
  • Applicants must have supervisory experience.

Selective Preferences:

 

Preference will be given to those applicants with:

·         Auditing experience (preferable in a governmental environment;

·         Training from a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) firm or state audit group;

·         A Master's degree with related governmental accounting and /or;

·         Certifications such as CPA, Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).

Retirement:

 

You will be required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) upon your 27th week of employment, subject to waiting period. On or shortly after, your first day of employment you will be provided with enrollment instructions and effective date.
