CITY Center for Collaborative Learning designs, implements, and advances innovations in teaching and learning that transform the lives of young people and their educators. The Tucson-based nonprofit offers professional development and community engagement experiences for educators and education advocates, while leading three small secondary schools that serve as demonstration sites.
Math and Integrated Science Teacher
Paulo Freire Freedom School is seeking a certified or highly qualified teacher to teach math and integrated science and also lead a small advisory of students in grades 6-8 . We are looking for an educator with a demonstrated background and interest in integrated project-based learning curriculum, social-emotional learning, competency-based learning, inclusion, and a deep commitment to the whole child. The school’s approach centers around collaboration, thoughtful innovation, team building, culturally responsive teaching, and leveraging diverse and multiple perspectives.
Specific functions include:
● Design, plan and implement math classes
● Working with a team, design, plan and implement integrated units of instruction using project-based learning as instructional model (bringing a math/science expertise to the team)
● Plan and facilitate an Advisory for approximately 13 students
● Integrate Culturally Responsive Teaching, Project-based Learning, Cooperative Learning, Differentiated Instruction, Universal Design for Learning, and Competency-based Assessments
● Co-plan and co-teach with Support Services Department
● Engage with community partners to provide place-based instruction and hands-on learning experiences
● Willingness to understand, practice, and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion
● Provide accommodations and modifications as outlined in students’ IEPs or 504 Plans
● Participate in professional development activities
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree (or higher) required
● Teacher certification and highly qualified status in middle school or secondary math and/or science preferred;
● Teaching experience with middle school students preferred
● Demonstrated success as a collaborative professional
● Strong work ethic, interpersonal skills, initiative and independence
● Commitment to ethnic diversity, heterogeneous grouping, and inclusion
● Knowledge of Arizona Mathematics and Science Standards
Job Type: Full time
Salary: Competitive annual teacher salary starting at $48,000 per year, based on experience.

Work Year: Based on the approved school-year calendar, approximately August 1-June 1
