Position Title: Educational Specialist/504 Coordinator FLSA Status: Exempt Full-time/Part-time: Full-time - 10 months Benefits Eligible: Yes Posting Closes: Open until filled Reports to: Assistant Principal for Student Services This is a 10 month Exempt position starting five working days before the first day of school and completing the academic year five working days after the last day of school. Position Summary: Provides school educational services and performs duties as assigned by immediate supervisor. Duties include: ● Provide consultation to students, teachers and other school personnel and parents regarding social, emotional, behavioral and/or academic behavior. ● Consult with students and parents when 504 accommodations are requested or recommended. ● Interpret educational documentation received from outside providers and write 504 plans according to school guidelines regarding the types of accommodations provided. ● Facilitate all activities related to the implementation of 504 accommodations and extended time testing. ● Supervise the school’s Learning Lab which provides tutoring and extended time testing. ● Coordinate, facilitate and manage all extended time testing for Final Exams (Fall and Spring semesters): ○ Handle all communication with teachers, students and parents regarding Final Exam testing. ○ Communicate with the assigned proctor. ○ Collect and return all extended time finals. ● Coordinate, facilitate and manage all make-up Final Exams for ALL missed Final Exams (Fall and Spring semesters) ○ Handle all communication with teachers, students and parents regarding make-up Final Exam testing. ○ Proctor all exams or arranges for proctoring in “after-school tutoring”. ○ Collect and return all make-up final exams.
○ In Spring (after one week), turn over any make-up finals pending to the Director of Counseling. ● Coordinate and proctor all extended time testing for students who have that accommodation. ○ Handle all communication with teachers, students and parents regarding extended time testing. ● Coordinate, facilitate and manage all Peer Tutoring for students. ○ Handle all communication with NHS advisors, student tutors, and students “in need”. ○ Help parents explore other tutoring options. ○ Follow up with teachers and after-school tutoring regarding support for students. ● Provide academic support to students in a broad range of high school subjects. ● Develop Parent/Student Workshops ○ Develop evening/weekend or in classroom presentations for parents and students to address a variety of topics: Study skills, note-taking, organizational skills, test anxiety, how to best support students with ADD/ADHD ● Maintain accurate and confidential records of students. ● Participate in training, conferences, meetings, workshops and other professional development activities, as required or assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: ● Must be able to work with a diverse student population. ● Experience with writing/reviewing/updating 504 Accommodation Plans. ● Experience working with students/families and faculty regarding 504 Plans. ● Understanding of psycho-educational testing and learning disabilities. ● Working knowledge Google Applications ● Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific, scholarly and professional journals, reports, and legal documents. ● Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from staff and parents. ● Ability to effectively communicate to a variety of audiences, including employees, students, parents, community members, and SCHS constituents. ● Ability to write correspondence and reports that conform to prescribed style and format. Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree and Arizona certification as an educational specialist or school counselor Solid employment history with verifiable references
