Job Description:

The Wilson School District is looking for a highly qualified and certified Dean of Students to teach for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. College graduates, Student Teachers and Teacher Interns are always encouraged to apply.  We offer a competitive hiring salary.  

  

Our hiring salary is $60,000.00 to $65,000.00 per year. Other possible payment (if eligible) $3,000 for National Board-Certified Teacher, $1,500 for BLE, $1,000 for ESL, $500 for Prov ESL.  Performance Pay up to $3,000.00. 

 

 

At Wilson School District, we believe that education should be shaped by a sense of purpose. The position of Dean of Students is to provide support for the administrative and instructional functions of the campus. The Dean of Students will perform a wide variety of administrative duties which include addressing student discipline matters, facilitates community relations, and supervision and coordination of assigned student activities. This position is a visible presence in all areas of the school and is responsible for all issues related to the well-being of the students during their time at the school. This position reports to the Principal.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:     

  • Managing student behavior, discipline, safety, and learning environment.
  • Monitors student behavior and engages with students and parents to correct inappropriate conduct, identify student challenges, and development/implement behavior intervention strategies that maximize opportunities for student success.
  • Processes student referrals pertaining to discipline, attendance and due process hearings.
  • Supports duties and tasks as part of the campus administration team.
  • Develops and implements student disciplinary policies and procedures.
  • Enforces guidelines and requirements for student behavior, dress, conduct, and compliance with requirements as documented in the parent-student handbook.
  • Oversee and manage traffic and parking guidelines and processes for student drop-off, pick-up, and campus events.
  • Provide guidance to students and parents about school and district behavior, dress, and conduct policies.
  • Supports teachers in building positive relationships with parents.
  • Supports campus extracurricular activities and family engagement events to ensure a safe and positive environment.
  • Monitors tardiness, attendance and truancy; coordinates with attendance clerk, campus health aide, and campus/community behavior therapists to maximize students in-class time
  • Makes referrals to resources and assistance available at the school and community level to address issues of attendance, discipline and behavior.
  • Ensures appropriate communication with students, parents, teachers, administrators and other related personnel.
  • Monitors discipline patterns, generates reports and analyzes data regarding student discipline with the MTSS team.
  • Monitor and track:
    • Parent log
    • Student interventions
    • Teacher log
    • Student information system
  • Ensures that all work is completed in accordance with District policy and applicable state and federal laws.
  • Supervises and evaluates professional and/or support personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of school's curriculum.
  • Maintain positive, cooperative and mutually supportive relationships with administration, parents and representatives of resource agencies within the community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Participates in all faculty and staff meetings and relevant professional development.  

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

·         Bachelor’s degree in education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field.

·         Three (3) years of experience in education

·         Experience working with youth and families to develop programs that support student academic development and school and community involvement.

·         Active AZ Department of Public Safety (DPS) IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

·         Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.

·         Behavior management of relevant experiences required.

PREFFERED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

·         Master’s Degree preferred and/or related work experience, demonstrated instructional expertise as evidenced by a minimum of five (5) years successful teaching experience.

·         Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate

·         Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

·         Experience in developing and delivering ongoing, job-embedded professional development.

·         Experience in leadership duties, responsibilities, and/or roles (e.g., Instructional Team Leader, Reading Support Teacher, or Math Support Teacher).

·         Arizona SEI Endorsement

We are a Pre-K through 8th grade school district in Phoenix, Arizona, established as the seventh school district organized in Maricopa County in 1879 and named for Mr. W. J. Wilson, a school board member.  The district name was changed in the mid-1930’s to Hawkins School.  From Wilson to Hawkins to Ward to Skiff, the District was bought by Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and relocated to its current location in the early 1980’s and named Wilson Primary and Wilson Elementary, opening on Martin Luther King Day in 1985. The district boundaries cover an area from Roosevelt Street to the north; the Salt River to the south; 40th Street to the east; and 16th Street to the west.
