Job Summary

Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is seeking a full-time Culinary Laboratory Technician. This position provides support for Culinary academic lab and instructional facility operations by preparing and maintaining related equipment, facility space, supplies, culinary garden, and other resources used for instructional purposes. To best serve the students, department, and college, this position requires a physical presence on campus. Applications received after the review may not be screened. Essential Functions

20% - Monitors, maintains and works in the culinary arts gardens. Monitors and assures safety procedures are adhered to in the use of equipment, edible products and other resources. Responsible for maintaining seasonal planting schedules that have been built with faculty and menu needs at the forefront. Handles planting, harvesting, trimming, and routine maintenance.

20% - Maintains supplies inventory and storage areas; works in garden maintenance to include purchasing, construction, planting, harvesting, drying herbs, trimming and maintenance as necessary. Prepares and sets up work areas and instructional equipment and supplies; Aids with production of items required for scheduled functions, special parties and clients; coordinates with faculty in assisting with any culinary department functions.

20% - Monitors and maintains equipment, facility space, supplies, and other resources used for instructional purposes. Works with continued organization and cleaning of all kitchen areas as well as supervising students on cleaning requirements. Monitors and assures safety procedures are adhered to in the use of equipment, instructional spaces and other resources; responsible for all cleaning functions that are required by health department regulations. Coordinates and assists with deep cleaning at the end of semester in the fall and major cleaning during summer months.

15% - Assists faculty members with basic operational needs in support of academic laboratory instruction and daily production; participates in weekly receiving, organizing and storing of weekly deliveries.

15% - Perform monthly maintenance. Assists with researching supply and equipment information and pricing from vendors; Drives ingredients, supplies and equipment between culinary arts facilities and culinary arts gardens; assists with purchasing groceries and delivering to the culinary facilities. Other duties as assigned.

10% - Prepares and provides learning instructions and materials; assists instructors with various laboratory learning activities and/or demonstrations; may assist administering testing; assists with supervising culinary students in lab spaces.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and one year of laboratory experience such as maintaining equipment, facility space, supplies or other resources used for laboratory purposes in the area of assignment.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications

- Three (3) years full-time experience in culinary work environments

- Experience of local health regulations and certification (Food Handler Cards/ServSafe)

- Experience with gardening principles and practices

- Experience in small kitchen equipment and safety

- Associate Degree and/or Certificate in Culinary Arts

Special Working Conditions

• Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense.

• Will be required to travel or be assigned to other MCCCD locations.

• This position requires a physical presence on campus with possible partial remote work depending on business needs to best serve the students, department and college.
