Job Description:

OVERVIEW:

The lead athletic trainer oversees the other athletic trainers and projects while communicating with reporting to head of athletics. They will also specialize in rehab and physical therapy will work with athletes and individuals to aid in their recovery from injuries and improve their overall physical health. The trainer will use their human anatomy and physiology knowledge to create customized rehabilitation programs for their students. The trainer will also work closely with medical professionals, such as doctors and physical therapists, to ensure their students receive comprehensive care. The trainer will also educate their students on injury prevention and guide exercise techniques. Overall, the athletic trainer will be crucial in helping student-athletes achieve their physical goals and improve their overall well-being.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or a related field.
  2. Certification by the Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers.
  3. Strong leadership and communication skills.
  4. Proficiency in emergency response protocols and first aid techniques.
  5. Knowledge of current industry standards and trends in athletic training and sports medicine.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Oversee a team of trainers, providing guidance, direction, and mentorship.  ensuring efficient coverage of athletic events and practices.
  2. Maintain open communication channels to foster collaboration and a supportive working environment.
  3. Ensure that all trainers adhere to established protocols and guidelines, promoting consistency and quality of care.
  4. Develop and implement comprehensive safety protocols to prevent injuries and ensure athlete well-being. While Communicate safety protocols clearly to staff, student-athletes, and parents, fostering a culture of safety awareness.
  5. Regularly review and update safety protocols based on the latest industry standards and research.
  6. Create detailed emergency action plans for various scenarios, including injuries, weather incidents, and medical emergencies.
  7. Regularly update emergency plans to reflect best practices and any changes in the athletic department.
  8. Train staff and student-athletes on the proper execution of emergency action plans to ensure quick and effective responses during critical situations.
  9. Conduct thorough injury assessments and provide appropriate treatment and rehabilitation plans for student-athletes.
  10. Collaborate with medical professionals, coaches, and parents to ensure a holistic approach to athlete recovery and return-to-play decisions.
  11. Monitor the progress of injured athletes, adjusting rehabilitation plans as needed to ensure optimal recovery.
  12. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of athlete injuries, treatments, and progress.
  13. Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards regarding confidentiality and medical recordkeeping.
  14. Foster strong working relationships with medical doctors, orthopedic specialists, and physical training centers.
  15. Coordinate and facilitate communication between our office and external medical partners to ensure comprehensive athlete care.
  16. Collaborate with medical professionals to develop personalized rehabilitation plans and ensure a coordinated approach to athlete recovery.
  17. Serve as the primary point of contact between our athletic department and external medical professionals.
  18. Facilitate the seamless exchange of information, including injury reports, treatment plans, and progress updates.
  19. Coordinate referrals to physical training centers and follow up on athlete progress during off-site rehabilitation

Base Salary:

$63,125

Performance Pay:

Available annually

New hire experience:

1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a five-year maximum

New hire education:

1% of the base salary rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position

Class/Calendar:

D71, 10.25 months
